Year 13 Applied Business SoW In year 13, applied business students complete three units of work. Two of these are internally assessed as coursework portfolio units and one is externally assessed in the form of an examination. For both of the coursework units, students must choose a local business that they are able to access lots of information about. We recommend using either a family business, somewhere the student works or somewhere close to where the student lives. During unit 8 and unit 10, students will need to visit their chosen business on a regular basis to find out information to make their coursework units realistic. Failure to do this will restrict the marks the student can achieve. Unit 10 – Promotional Activities (Internally assessed coursework) Unit 10 is usually started at the end of year 12 when students return from study leave and should take them until December. Miss Bull usually teaches this unit. Unit 12 – Managing People (Externally assessed examination) Unit 12 is usually taught by Mr Rigby between September and December of year 13. Unit 8 – Business Planning (Internally assessed coursework) Unit 8 is usually taught by Miss Bull and Mr Rigby between January and Easter.
