Optical Test Engineer Company Description Pacific Light Technologies is a materials company focused on introducing quantum dots (QDs) as alternatives to phosphors in solid-state lighting, which will eliminate the need for rare-earth-based materials, reduce energy consumption by at least 20% and provide higher color quality for residential and commercial applications. The company has successfully raised a $3M Series A round, and is operating with engineering and scientific staff located in Portland OR and Berkeley CA. This position will be located in Portland with the majority of the engineering and scientific team. PLT has a strong team of experienced startup executives who have lead other startup teams to 2 IPO’s, 4 acquisitions, and over 100 product launches while establishing companies with dominant market share. PLT is currently providing early samples to multiple top solid state lighting companies and expects to begin generating revenues with its first products in 2013. PLT is in a “stealth mode” and its website contains little information on the company. Further details will be provided to applicants. Duties/Responsibilities This role is focused on the optical and environmental testing of PLT’s QD down-converter material under real world on-chip conditions. The candidate will develop a semi-automated process to apply PLT’s QDbased down-converter material directly onto high powered blue LEDs. Using these devices the candidate will also develop and execute a test process to acquire full spectral radiant flux data and color coordinates under defined electrical, thermal and environmental conditions. The candidate will interact with the synthesis and polymer teams to optimize the production parameters for the nanomaterials and to monitor the product quality. Professional Experience - Characterization of white light LEDs Processing of wavelength-converting materials in LED component manufacturing Electrical, optical, and thermal characterization of high-performance LED components Design and construction of suitable measurement setups to enable characterization Solid understanding of the factors which affect LED performance Experience with data analysis software tools - Able to execute complex process-related experiments and resolve problems in a timely fashion, both individually and in a team Highly motivated, self-directed and goal-oriented.
