Clear Garbage Bags Policy Hastings Highlands is committed to providing a high level of service when it comes to your household waste, to continue this we must transition to clear bags. As of July 1st, 2014 a 3 month phase in educational period will aid residents and Municipal employees in this change. Dark bags may also be used during this time to use up supplies. The program is to be in full compliance October 1st, 2014. Why? The Municipality needs to ensure sustainable landfill and extend the life of each site, helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. Who will this effect? The clear bag policy applies to all residences and businesses in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands. Clear bags are required for all waste left for curbside collection and all waste taken to the Municipal landfill sites for disposal. Non-compliant bags put out for curbside collection will be tagged and left. The notice directs resident to the Municipal web site for more information. Non-compliant bags taken to a landfill site will be refused unless resident takes the opportunity to remove recycling from the bag. Getting Started! All garbage must be placed in clear bags. Clear tinted bags are permitted however black/dark green bags are NOT permitted.
