Abstract During discussions at the TR-41.9.1 meeting on February 28, 2012, suggestions were made to send two liaison letters to ACTA. One is to deal with outdated references in data sheets being provided by plug and jack manufacturers. The other is to advise ACTA of two standards due for revision or reaffirmation in early 2013 and to ask their help in publicizing request for any needed modifications to the documents. This contribution attempts to capture the spirit of the discussion and provides drafts of the essential text for the two liaison letters. v1.0 – 20050426 Telecommunications Industry Association TR41.9-12-02-009-M Essential text for liaison letter regard plug and jack data sheets: It has come to the attention of our TR-41.9 Subcommittee that data sheets provided by a number of modular plug and jack manufacturers incorrectly reference compliance with Part 68, Subpart F of the FCC rules regarding compliance of their products. All plugs and jacks used for connecting terminal equipment to the network interface, or to inside wiring that connects to the network interface, must comply with ANSI/TIA-1096-A, Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Connector Requirements for Connection of Terminal Equipment to the Telephone Network. The original ANSI/TIA-1096 standard was published in 2006, and the current “A” revision was completed in 2008. TR-41 would like to request the assistance of ACTA in making plug and jack manufacturers aware that they need to be ensuring compliance of their products to the this latest document and should so indicate in their product literature. Perhaps ACTA can issue a press release or otherwise post information on its web site to help raise awareness concerning this subject. Essential text for liaison letter on standards coming up for revision: TR-41 notes that the following standards documents adopted by ACTA are due for their five-year review early in 2013: TIA-168-B, Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Labeling Requirements ANSI/TIA-1096-A, Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Connector Requirements for Connection of Terminal Equipment to the Telephone Network. We are aware that ACTA has received questions and comments on at least the ANSI/TIA-1096-A standard and has referred the person(s) with the concerns to TIA in the past year. TR-41 would like to request ACTA’s assistance in encouraging parties who may feel there is a need to make changes to either document to bring their issues to our attention. They may do so by submitting an email to standards@tiaonline.org, filling out the feedback form at http://www.tiaonline.org/about/contact-us, or contacting TR-41 Chair Steve Whitesell directly (swhitesell@ieee.org).
