The document to which this cover statement is attached is submitted to a Formulating Group or
sub-element thereof of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) in accordance with the
provisions of Sections 6.4.1–6.4.6 inclusive of the TIA Engineering Manual dated October 2009, all
of which provisions are hereby incorporated by reference.
Abstract
A project to revise ANSI/TIA-810-B was approved at the June 2012 TR-41.3 meeting in Dallas.
Discussion during that meeting suggested adding a requirement for compliance with the ANSI/TIA-1083
magnetic coupling requirements to the revised document. See comment added to heading for clause 6.2.4
in TR41.3-12-06-008-MR1. This contribution proposes revised wording for Clause 6.2.4 to accomplish
this task. It also proposes adding ANSI/TIA-1083-A to the list of normative references in Clause 3.

Add the following to the list of Normative References in Clause 3:
ANSI/TIA-1083-A-2010, Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Handset
Magnetic Measurement Procedures and Performance Requirements.
Modify Clause 6.2.4 to read as follows:
6.2.4
Handset Magnetic Field for Hearing Aid Coupling
The current regulatory hearing aid compatibility magnetic output requirements specified in 47 CFR Part
68.316 address only the desired magnetic field related to the received speech signal. They do not address
noise signals that may be generated within the handset and cause interference to hearing aids. ANSI/TIA1083-A does address this issue by providing A-weighted noise and signal-to-noise ratio requirements in
addition to speech signal requirements that are consistent with those in 47 CFR Part 68.316.
6.2.4.1 Measurement Method
The measurement method for evaluating the suitability of the magnetic field produced by the handset for
coupling to a hearing aid is specified in clauses 3.2.2 (perpendicular orientation) and 3.3.2 (transverse
orientation) of ANSI/TIA-1083-A.
6.2.4.2 Requirement
The handset shall provide a magnetic field for hearing aid coupling that meets the requirements in clauses
3.2.1 (perpendicular orientation) and 3.3.1 (transverse orientation) of ANSI/TIA-1083-A. Requirements
are specified for the magnetic field intensity and induced voltage frequency response of the desired signal,
total harmonic distortion, the A-weighted level of undesired noise signals, and the signal-to-noise ratio for
both orientations.
