Worthen, Ste 100 Wenatchee 663-6817 Wenatchee Kiwanis Foundation This week’s meeting of the Wenatchee Downtown Kiwanis Club opened with a brief tribute to Ron Russell who passed away this past week. He was an active member and a regular attender until ill health kept him from attending. He was president of our club in 1980. His southern drawl and ready smile will long be remembered. Following this brief tribute Ken Buttel led in the salute to the American flag and John Reichmann led the group in the singing of an American patriotic song followed by “O Canada”, on this last Tuesday of the month. Ron Yates gave the opening prayer, including the tribute to Ron Russell. The meeting got underway with the leadership of president Mel Birmingham. Byron Moore introduced the guests and Tom Irvin conducted the Lucky Dawg drawing with our Camp Fire leader, Theresa Samuelsen winning the $5. There was no winner in the yellow dice rolling so next week’s winner could go home with $50. Joe Blackmore showed up un and willingly collected the Happy Bucks. Retirement seems to be good for Joe. He looks great and we appreciated his surprise visit. John Hook announced several interclub meetings for the month of August. They include the Division 52 Council meeting, this Thursday evening, August 1st, at 7 pm at the First United Methodist Church. YES, TOM, YOU ARE INVITED AND WELCOME, TOO! On Wednesday, August 7th, we will interclub with the Eastmont Club, at noon, at the Country Inn in East Wenatchee. On Monday evening, the 12th, Cashmere,s Wacoka Club meets at the American Legion at 6: 30 pm. Try to attend one or more of these interclub meetings. The Wacoka Club announced the death of Betsy Meade, this week. She was a charter member of the Cashmere club and was on the threshold of 100 years. She was the mother and mother-in-law of Larry and Carolyn Meade, also Kiwanians. Her memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th, at the Cashmere United Methodist Church, at 1: 30 pm. Remember the Foundation in your planning Announcements Tom Irvin announced that sod will be laid at Methow Pak on of the future Tuesday, August 6th. Stop by after our club meeting that day Steve Harvey reminded us of the clothing drive for school clothes for students. It will be given to Serve Wenatchee to process and 2011 – 2012 BOARD OF DIRECTORS distribute. Time is running out so get the clothing to them as soon as possible. Program In the absence of Al Smith, Ernie Hobbs introduced our program for today. Our speaker was Jeannie Kiehn of George who lives on an acreage with her husband and four children and raises cattle. She was born and raised on a cattle ranch at Hartline. Her family has raised and shown cattle, horses, pygmy goats, sheep and hogs. She has a special appreciation of the land and livestock and their importance to life. She is very involved in 4-H and has been a beef leader for 23 years. She majored in animal science at Washington State University. She is proud to say that she has been a member of ___________________________________ the Washington State Cattle Women for 24 years and the American National Cattle Women for the past four years. She is a proud member of the National Beef Speaker’s Bureau. With the use of 2011 – 2012 power point projection she displayed some charts. She left charts CLUB OFFICERS and brochures that showed meat cuts and recipes.
