THE WEEKLY BUILDER Kiwanis Club of Wenatchee Meeting Tuesday Noon Volume 2010-11-31 Meeting of May 3, 2011 State Farm Insurance Ernie Hobbs 129 Methow Street Wenatchee 662-9574 H. Steven Harvey DDS Hospital & General Dentistry 211 Whitman Way Wenatchee 663-5722 Country Financial Laurie Mooney 1 S. Chelan, Suite A Wenatchee 663-3800 Weekly News I arrived at the Red Lion on Tuesday at noon, for our weekly luncheon meeting, only to discover that members were eating scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, ham and pancakes. No, I was not confused on the time of day, we were preparing for our 51st annual Pancake Breakfast to be held next Saturday, May 7th. In fact, I was looking forward to today’s menu. It was delicious but somehow I missed the syrup and ate my pancakes without it. I will do better on Saturday. President Joe Blackmore had difficulty interrupting our “breakfast” and so rapped both the bell and the podium to bring us to our feet. The opening team included Ken Buttel with the flag salute, Bill Dearing with “God Bless America” and Ron Yates (keeping in practice) with the prayer. There were no guests but we had been greeted by new member Mark Wiser. “Mighty” Mel Birmingham collected a full pot of money painlessly extracting it from many of the members. If you want to know about Montana weather this time of year just ask Al Smith. He and Steve Harvey just arrived home from a fishing trip. Earl Carey told of his wife’s accident and two demolished autos and Brian Flones’s son rolled his truck. There were no severe injuries for which we are grateful. Tom Irvin conducted the drawing and it was won by John Hook. Jim Taylor reminded us that today would have been his wife, Estel’s, 90th birthday. Joe Blackmore told of his wedding last Saturday and his attendance at graduation at WSU this coming Saturday. He owes us because he won’t be cooking pancakes for us. Announcements There were several acknowledgments and announcements: Doug Head was pleased with the club’s support of the Children’s Home Society luncheon and announced that a generous amount of money was raised. Did you see the picture in the World of one of our club’s tables? It was a great picture of Ernie Hobb’s back. This Thursday evening, May 5th, the Division Council meeting will be held at the new Wenatchee Public Works building, at 7 pm. We need an interclub group. Alan L. Smith CPA Tax & Accounting 159 S. Closing It is time to close with a few words of wisdom….. “Is there another word for synonym?” “Is it possible to be totally partial?” “If a # 2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still # 2?” “What’s another word for thesaurus?” Finally, “Show me a man with both feet firmly on the ground, and I’ll show you a man who can’t get his pants off.” That is enough of this nonsense.
