Precalculus Fifth Edition, Stewart, Redlin, and Watson
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Course Description: Precalculus intergrates the trigonometric, geometric and algebraic concepts necessary to
be successful in the study of calculus. Precalculus Honors continues to include the California State
Mathematics Standards for Precalculus as well as incorporating newer Common Core State Standards. Please
find below the link to the CA website for a more specific list of math standards:

Be on time to class.
Come prepared to learn with completed assignment, notebook and pencils everyday.
Be productive during class by taking notes, participating in class discussion and working on
assignments.
Respect adults, your peers and yourself.
GRADES
Grades are determined by overall class performance on a weighted grading system as follows:
20% Daily Assignments

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS:
Daily assignments will include problems to work on in class as well as problems to complete at home. Each
daily assignment is worth 10 points. Complete assignments are due at the beginning of the period and will
receive full credit (10 points). Late or incomplete assignments may receive partial credit (up to 7 points) once
they are completed and passed in before the end of the chapter. If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to
find out what you’ve missed and to turn it in completed. Assignments will be posted on SBHS EDU 2.0 for
your convenience. Students who have more than two incomplete assignments for any chapter will be required
to attend extra tutorial sessions with myself during lunch on Tuesdays or Thursdays or an alternative tutorial
program such as Math Honor Society tutors until the assignments are completed and turned in.
EXAMS AND QUIZZES:
Quizzes will be given periodically throughout each chapter and will consist of both individual and group
formats. Group quizzes are often given at the end of a chapter and serve the purposes of assessment as well as
review prior to an individual assessment. If a student has an excused absence the day a group quiz is given they
will receive a grade for that quiz in proportion to their individual exam grade for that chapter. An EXAM will
be given at the end of each chapter. Make-up exams must be taken promptly upon your return from an excused
absence. A truancy on the day of a quiz or exam results in a score of zero.
FINAL EXAM:
A cumulative Final Exam will be given during the designated day and time of the finals schedule.
EXTRA HELP
I will plan to be available each Tuesday and Thursday during lunch to give students extra assistance and to
administering make-up tests and quizzes.
SUPPLIES FOR SUCCESS IN Precalculus:
3-ring binder
Notebook paper
Graph paper
Pencils
Ruler (straight edge)
Scientific calculator
OPTIONAL ITEMS:
dividers
colored pencils
individual sharpener
small stapler
highlighters
In addition, a GRAPHING CALCULATOR is a tool that you may wish to purchase. An option I recommend
is Texas Instruments Nspire CX graphing calculator. The TI-Nspire CX (approx. $150) is the latest and
greatest from a long list of hand held TI graphing calculators. It is very user friendly and will be useful for the
next several years of your math education. We have several for use in the classroom but many students prefer
to have their own for use at school and at home. Another option would be to purchase the TI-nspire APP
(approx. $30) for a tablet for use at home.
