Savannah State University Position Description – Lead Driver/Fleet Specialist POSITION DESCRIPTION: Position Title: Lead Driver/Fleet Specialist Reports To: FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Transportation Coordinator Department: Auxiliary Services Date Prepared: May, 2015 BASIC FUNCTION The lead Driver/Fleet Specialist works to provide maintenance reporting and repair coordination; coordinates bus assignments for the charter bus program, and provides support for the Auxiliary Services Department. NATURE & SCOPE Reporting directly to the Transportation Coordinator, the Lead Driver/Fleet Specialist works independently on a full-time flexible schedule and is responsible for the coordinating and monitoring the need for preventive maintenance and servicing of University vehicles: including motor coach buses, motor pool vehicles, fleet management vehicles, and golf carts. Serves as the lead driver for bus trips and delegates trips to other bus drivers. Work may include some overtime. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Serve as lead driver of motor coach buses, including motor pool and fleet vehicles; verify road readiness of buses before trip departure; road test vehicles Maintain functionality of bus amenities, including TV monitors and Wi-Fi Coordinate bus trips for other drivers; assess driver logs to determine completeness Work with Detailer/delivery team to facilitate vehicles taken for repair; develop/maintain preventive maintenance schedules; transport vehicles to/from repair shop Report and coordinate regular vehicle maintenance; maintain vehicle maintenance logs in each vehicle Conduct bus functionality inspections of electronic components prior to departure for trips Document vehicle repairs and inspections according to company guidelines Order and maintain inventory of vehicle parts; prepare purchase orders; maintain records on repair parts purchases Coordinate, facilitate, and handle dumping of University owned motor coach buses Assist as needed to transport vehicles Coordinate and oversee Golf Cart maintenance Other duties as assigned to support the Auxiliary Services Department Compliance with University and State rules and regulations SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Savannah State University Position Description – Lead Driver/Fleet Specialist High school diploma or equivalent; at least a year of experience with Diesel and Gas Engine repair required, 3+ years preferred or equivalent experience and education. Must have a valid driver’s license, CDL, Certificate with PEndorsement and be able to work a full-time flex schedule (minimum of 40 hours per week). Basic knowledge of Microsoft with desire to learn new computer programs and fleet management systems is required. Supervisory/management experience and National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence certification preferred. Ability to work independently on various vehicles in all types of weather, lift up to 50 pounds, and speak, read and write English clearly. Excellent oral, written, and non-verbal communication skills with ability to provide high quality service in a fast-paced and physically challenging environment. Valid driver’s license, good Motor Vehicle Record and ability to pass criminal background check and drug screen.
