POSITION TITLE: Surgical Services – Supply Specialist
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Surgical Services
DATE: June 30, 2014
JOB SUMMARY: A supply specialist is a surgical technologist who assists the surgical
team. The primary job responsibility is to maintain supplies on hand for upcoming
surgical procedures. The supply specialist is also responsible for reconciling patient
charges. Secondary responsibilities align with surgical technologist duties. The surgical
technologist must be able to anticipate the surgeon’s needs during an operation. The
technologist must maintain strict sterile technique and follow current guidelines. The
surgical technologist works under the supervision of the circulating RN in the operating
room and/or charge nurse of the Unit. The surgical technologist must be a patient
advocate.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.
Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes
cause discomfort.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:





Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program highly preferred
Knowledgeable of various surgical procedures
Knowledge of surgical supplies
Knowledge of the current electronic medical record for billing and ordering purposes
recommended
Current BLS or within 6 months of hire
RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Surgical Services. Also reports clinically
to the unit charge nurse.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
