POSITION TITLE:
Surgical Technology Program Director/Instructor
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for Surgical Technology
program. Develops program and syllabi, goals and objectives. Evaluates students' progress in attaining
goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests.
Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required
documentation and administrative reports. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and
conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students,
staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Assists
with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 Candidate must have a minimum of a diploma from an accredited surgical technology program
 Candidate must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
 Candidate must hold Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
 Must have a minimum of three years of current operating room experience in the scrub role
and/or three years of current experience as an instructor in surgical technology
NOTE: Current operating room experience is defined as a minimum of three of the last five years spent as a
practicing surgical technologist and/or as an instructor in surgical technology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 Associate degree from an accredited health care program
 Managerial experience in the clinical setting and/ or educational setting
 Broad clinical experience in the surgical technology area
 Experience in teaching and curriculum development
