LASER POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS One of the advantages of using the Dental Surgical Laser is that postoperative complications and discomfort are greatly reduced or nonexistent. However, proper care of the surgical site is very important we suggest the following: - - - Starting this evening, rinse your mouth and the surgical area with warm salt water. You should do this for approximately one minute five times a day, especially after meals. Twice a day use the Peridex rinse, once in the morning, then once before bed, if this was prescribed to you. If you experience any discomfort, Tylenol, Motrin, or aspirin are very adequate in taking care of this problem…using whichever you prefer. For the day of Laser Surgery, avoid hot or spicy foods, concentrating on foods that are easy to chew and cool in temperature. The following day you may advance your diet to what you feel comfortable with, steering clear of spicy foods for the next week. Other advantages include little to no bleeding or swelling, and your healing time is usually less than a week. This allows you to resume your normal routine much more quickly. You may notice a dark discoloration when you first leave. This is normal and actually helps protect the surgical area.
