Gravitant Helps Enterprises Eliminate Risk Maximize the Benefits of Cloud
Gravitant will showcase its cloudMatrix Enterprise Cloud Broker and Management Platform at the 2013
Gartner Symposium/ITxpo
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Oct 3, 2013 — Gravitant, which powers the longest running enterprise cloud
brokerage in the world, today announced product enhancements that further reduce cloud risk. While
cloud computing has brought many benefits in terms of reduced cost and improved agility, it has also
increased risks that CIOs now must address. The increased risk comes in multiple forms:
● "Shadow IT" where business users bypass IT and go directly to the cloud
● Security holes
● Resiliency (uptime)
● Lock-in to a single cloud provider
● Lack of visibility into the complete cloud cost
● Inadequate cloud procurement processes
Gravitant is one of the select Emerging Technology sponsors at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Orlando,
Fl., on October 6-10. In the Emerging Technology Pavilion at booth ET4, Gravitant will share how its
cloudMatrix Enterprise Cloud Broker and Management Platform has been reducing cloud risk for
enterprise customers for the last two years. Today, several features were announced that further this
effort:
● A broader capability to provide overall IT management of multiple Amazon accounts
● Centralized and secure SSH key management within cloudMatrix
● Customizable cloud procurement approval flows that better meet enterprises' more sophisticated
policies
● Automated IP and firewall configuration within cloudMatrix
Customers have benefitted from Gravitant's discover and sync feature to gain visibility and control over
non-IT, end-user managed Amazon EC2 accounts. This has been effective in governing shadow IT.
Gravitant has enhanced this to include Amazon S3 resources as well as existing Firewall rules, IP and
SSH keys. A more holistic view of cloud usage and spend, as well as better security, is the result.
Manual processes to manage security keys across multiple and disparate private and public clouds can
be avoided by using the expanded capabilities of cloudMatrix that include centralized SSH key
management. Users can directly generate SSH keys, upload public keys, assign specific SSH keys at the
time of initial virtual machine provisioning, and perform SSH key removal across many cloud providers.
Procuring the right cloud services can be a manual process for the IT department, and often the process
is the same whether it's a small or large order. To alleviate some of the complexity, departments may turn
to only one or two providers, creating lock-in, or have lengthy approval processes for every request.
cloudMatrix now allows the customization of the procurement workflow that is driven by policies set
around attributes such as the size of order, application context, and cloud services provider as well as
designation of specific approvers.
Manual management of public IP addresses and firewall rules increases the risk that security holes in
cloud access may be inadvertently created. Using cloudMatrix, IT admins can manage both items at the
individual virtual machine, network, and overall virtual data center level in self-service manner via a
simplified user interface. The automation and standardization of cloud network management is a key
requirement to maximizing the potential of cloud while minimizing the risks.
"CIOs have told us that risks around security, governance, vendor lock-in, and cloud complexity are
serious inhibitors to the broader use of private and public clouds," said Mohammed Farooq, Chairman
and CEO of Gravitant. "We continue to help CIOs to address this range of risks through ongoing
innovation within cloudMatrix, the most proven and integrated Enterprise Cloud Services Brokerage and
Management platform."
