Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome to our new Parents and children. They are settling in well. We
will be enjoying various activities during this term including tasting food
from around the world, playing with the Dental resource box from the
Library and having a dress up day.
September 2015 sessions
We are currently filling our sessions for children starting in September
2015. Any siblings of existing Abacus children will have free registration
if we receive their registration form by the end of February 2015. If you
know of anyone looking for a pre-school please ask them to contact us to
arrange a visit to look around. Spaces are going fast.
Health and safety
At drop off time the doorway gets very congested with children entering
preschool and parents/carers helping them settle. Unless your child is
unsettled please allow them to enter preschool independently. This is an
important stage of your child’s development. If you need to speak to a
member of staff please wait until all the children have entered preschool
and a member of staff will make themselves available to you.

Head Lice
As you are aware we have had many cases of head lice in preschool.
This is distressing for both parents and children and is easily spread.
Please comb through your child’s hair on a regular basis as a precaution.
Coffee Morning Wednesday 28th January 2015
We will be hosting a coffee morning between 9.15am and 10.00am in the
school hall. Everyone is welcome including children and their siblings for
a chance to have a chat whilst the children play. All donations for the tea
and coffee will go towards our summer trip.
Stay and play sessions – Tuesday 3rd February @ 9am – 10am,
Wednesday 4th February @ 12.30pm- 1.30pm and Thursday 5th
February @ 9am – 10am
Stay and play sessions are enjoyable for both the children, staff and
parents/carers. This is a great opportunity for the children to give you an
insight into their day. Please see the sign-up sheet on the notice board to
let us know if you would like to stay and play with your child during their
normal session. We are unable to accommodate siblings.
We are also always looking for people to come and talk to the children
from different career sectors, i.e. nurse, doctor, dentist, vet, builder,
dressmaker, or share their talents with them i.e. cooking, art, gardening.
If yourself or someone you know is able to come into Pre School please
let us know.
Pirates and Princess Day, Wednesday 11th February 2015
The children have requested a Pirates and Princess Day. If this is your
child’s normal session, please bring them in dressed as a pirate or
princess for the day. We will be playing games in the hall, having a party
style snack and giving out prizes for the best dressed pirate and
princess. Sorry, this is only open to children who attend Pre School on
this day, however we will hopefully host another one later in the year
which we can open to all children.

Payments
Please note: - all invoices are issued around the 20th of each month to
give you prior notice of amount required but are not due in full until the
1st day of every month.
If you do not pay any fees as you are claiming the Nursery
Education Grant and attend no more than the 15 hours, you will be
invoiced ONCE per term to reduce our use of paper.
If you do not have access to the internet please pay by CASH and give
your payment to a manager in an envelope marked with your child’s
name. Please note we do not accept cheques. ALL payments received
after the 1st will be deemed as LATE and will be invoiced an additional
administration fee unless you have spoken to a member of staff. Do not
send any mail to our registered company office in Kingswood as this may
not be forwarded.
Our preferred method of payment is BACs paid direct into our bank
account (please use your child’s name as a reference or we will be
unable to trace the payment!)

planned activities. It can be time consuming for staff to settle your child
when they are trying to supervise and observe a group of children.
Parking in Winterbourne
Parking is currently being monitored in Linden Close as it endangers the
safety of all children entering the premises, as well as causes congestion
to residents. We need to keep a clear access at all times in the event
that an emergency vehicle needs to enter the school grounds.
Parking is easily available in Burrough Way and Friary Grange, where
access to the Pre-School is via the back lane through the green gate.
You MUST NOT access preschool through the school playground at
12.30pm or 3.00pm as Primary school children may be outside. Our
gate will be open into the courtyard. We must try to keep all
children safe.
Lost property box
Please could you collect any clothing or toys from the red lost property
box as it is now overflowing. Any items left at the end of this term will be
taken to the local Charity shop.
Nuts/Drinks
Please be reminded that we have a nut allergy within pre-school and St
Michael’s is a nut free school so please avoid peanut butter and nut
products in your child’s lunchbox. Also please provide a drink in your
child’s lunchbox. Although we provide water and milk within the
preschool room, we have lunch in the school hall and staff need to be
supervising the children at all times.
