Core Content Area: Limits & Continuity Derivatives Application of Derivatives Integrals Application of Integrals Differential Equations Course Objectives: Work with functions represented in a variety of ways and understand the connections among these representations. Understand the meaning of the derivative in terms of rate of change and local linear approximation, and use derivatives to solve a variety of problems. Understand the relationship between the derivative and the definite integral. Use technology to help solve problems, experiment, interpret results, and verify conclusions. AP Exam: The exam is scheduled on Wednesday, May 7th. There are two sections to the test. Section I consist of 45 multiple choice questions and section II consist of 6 free response questions. The time allotted for the exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes. Graphing calculators can be used on most of the exam. The regular fee for the exam is $89 per student and reduced fee is $26. Homework: Homework is a vital component to this course. It will be assigned almost every day. Students are expected to put their best effort forward when completing the assignments. Homework must be an effort at learning and understanding the material. It will not be collected and graded, but it will be assessed through daily formative assessments (quizzes). Students will use homework as a tool to gage if they understand the skills and concepts being taught in class. In order to be successful in this course, it is extremely important that students complete their daily assignments. If students are struggling with any part of the homework, the assignment will be reviewed at the beginning of each class. Tutoring is also available. Homework assignments will be posted on our website, brookscollegeprep.org. Notes: Students are expected to take notes and keep a binder of their course work. Notes are another important tool we use to help in understanding and reviewing the skills and concepts being taught in the course. Graphing Calculators: All students are required to have a graphing calculator. The Texas Instruments TI-84 is recommended. The TI-83 or higher are also acceptable. A graphing calculator will be needed to participate in daily learning activities in class, completing homework assignments, and being successful on tests and quizzes. Students are expected to come to class prepared. Supplies needed on a daily basis are: (1) Pencil (mechanical pencil is recommended). (2) Textbook – Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic (3) Graphing calculator TI-83, TI-84, or higher (4) Notebook for taking notes (5) Loose leaf paper Full participation is required for all classroom activities. Classroom activities include: (1) Openers/warm ups (2) Guided practice problems (problems given in class during the lesson, usually written on the board) (3) Classroom discussions (4) Group activities (5) Special projects Students are to exhibit appropriate classroom behavior at all times. Students are to conform to all school rules including uniforms, discipline, ID, no eating in class, etc. Student Progress: Students will monitor their progress through Mastery Connect. Mastery Connect is an online program designed to help students oversee their progress in the course. Students can see what skills and concepts they have mastered and determine where they need more help.
