STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: ATAW99-02277-Biologist Technician-Aquatic Habitat/Instream Flow-Statewide SALARY: $14.39 - $14.39 Hourly LOCATION: Statewide OPENING DATE: 01/07/15 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Two 5-month positions will be filled, one in Laramie, one in Cheyenne, to assist fisheries biologists in field data collection for aquatic habitat projects and instream flow evaluations throughout the state. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Collect stream habitat data including learning to use surveying equipment and measure stream discharge and be able to perform these tasks independently after a short training period. Other duties include performing data entry, quality control and equipment maintenance tasks. Biologist technicians may occasionally assist other regional fisheries management crews in such tasks as electrofishing, netting, stream surveys, or other fishery management tasks. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference may be given to applicants with a High school degree plus experience in fish and wildlife resource management, research, or habitat development or college course work towards a degree in fishery or wildlife management, or ichthyology. Ability to learn new skills and techniques quickly and apply those skills efficiently. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires operation of 4wd vehicles and towing trailers. Requires working and staying in campers for up to 8 days at a time. Weekend work and holiday may be required. NOTES: FLSA: Nonexempt Open Until Filled Tentative dates for these positions are late May – late October. Off-duty housing is not provided. Lodging, waders, rain gear, uniform, and other necessary field equipment and expenses will be provided when in the field.
