Match Reports 2nd of June, 2013. 1. Knights 2. Raiders 3. Condors Knights v Knox Force (Round 8) It was great to have Harley and Dennis back in the midfield and we were confident of giving Knox a run for their money. Demps and Jared were injured but with a solid squad of 14 we took the field. The first 25 minutes were an amazing avalanche of Mooroolbark goals. A minute and 20 second in Tim M used his pace to run across the top of the box and then dab the ball past the on coming keeper. In the 15th minute Dave Noy floated in a nice free kick and the ball came off a Knox head, wrong footing the Keeper and finding the back of the net. Soon after Tim Rogers cracked an amazing 25 yard shot across goal into the inside of the side netting to get our third. In the 24th minute Chris put a curling corner in and it looked like Harley would get a penalty for being pushed out but Dave Noy pounced on the loose ball and scored giving us a 4-0 lead so early in the game. We continued to attack and nearly converted on another 3 occasions as we took advantage of fast ball movement and creative passes through midfield. Late in the half we conceded a goal as Cutters couldn’t clear a ball off the line but on the whole the defence of Cutters, Luke, Dave, Mwilye and Keeper Colbeck had been brilliant. The second half was exciting as we had some great chances to score and put the game away but eventually we began to sit back as Knox upped their intensity and scored a well constructed goal and then followed it up soon after with a penalty conversion. We held on however for the last 20 minutes and were relieved to take all 3 points. Enjoy the weekend off next Saturday. GO KNIGHERS! Score 4-3 win Goal Scorers: Tim Monro (2nd minute , OG (15th minute), T. Rogers (22nd minute) , D Noy (24th minute) Best players: Dave, Tim M, Chris, Luke, Harley, Raiders v Crossway On a day when lots of games were called off due to unplayable pitches (Amazons included) the Raiders were able to play their second cup game at Crossways ground. After a very even first half where only 1 goal was scored we did well for 60 minutes but conceded 3 soft goals very quickly and ended up losing 0-5. A poor result for the effort and determination the girls put in. Everyone played well but it just shows that we need to concentrate for 90 minutes and can’t afford to have a lapse that opens the door for the opposition. Ruth had a great game in goals and stopped plenty of shots. Nanette, Alison and Kelly shared the full back roles and all did terrific jobs, working hard and pushing up the ground where possible. Loui and Elissa were excellent in the centre of defence, putting pressure on their opponents and attacking the ball hard all day. Alex, Candice and Amy did the wing roles and pushed up and attacked wherever possible. Davina and Cassie were prominent all day and really caused problems for the Crossway defence. Mel and Ella caused headaches all day with their pace and attack on the ball. While the result didn’t look great it showed that while we are always in the game we need to narrow the gap between our finishing and our opponents. When we start hitting the target we will always be competitive. Enjoy the week off ladies and we will start to work on the second half of the season. Condors vs Nth Blackburn For the first time this year, we played in really really wet and soggy conditions. And unfortunately it was Nth Blackburn who adjusted to the conditions quicker and got the jump on us in the first 10mins and put on a few quick goals. But once we had settled the game became a lot more even and the score line didn't do us justice. With Ben playing his 50th game for the club, we were determined to put in a better performance for him. Now while the first half didn't have a lot of highlights, the second half was a completely different story! The defence were clearing everything that was coming our way, with Sam In particular showing some real composure and skill with the ball and Tom making some courageous saves. The mids and strikers also began to put pressure on the Nth Blackburn defence, with D'arcy making one of his trademark runs, and Julian having his best game so far operating from both wings. And with them only scoring one goal in the second half, we looked. Much better team, we just need to really work on not letting other teams taking early leads and then trying to play catch up the rest of the game. But that will come with experience and practice. But again I cannot fault the effort and team spirit, so let's keep working Condors! I hope you all enjoy a week of this week for the Queen’s Birthday weekend, so stay safe and we will see you soon! Go Condors!
