Rookies After a solid skills session which included warm ups, tackling, and red rover cross-over, the Rookies lined up to play the weekly hard fought game. In the first group, Jordis Barr defended at the half back position, making it hard for the Blue team attackers Georgia Hampton and Ella Ruchs to get past. Logan Blackwell and Chelsea Stone held up well in defence for Blue while Ella Lehmann and Eva Fiebig peppered the goals for a final score of 2-1 to Blue’s advantage. The second group had a hard fought battle with Yellow and Blue trading good skill levels. Jacqui Altus defended well for Blue with assistance from Lewis Green, Archie Dahlitz and Charlie Krop. Harry Schwarz, Emilie Stone and Elizabeth Dixon combined well to gain the upper hand over Blue for a final score of 2-1. Juniors Crusaders v Royals It was a very even start to the game with good attacking and defending from both teams. Tilly Hamilton and Ryan Boyd attacked well for the Crusaders, but were brought up against strong defender Sarah Densley for the Royals. Ryan Boyd eventually forced Crusaders’ first short corner, but it was well cleared by James Duff. Bhavishay Jangra gained some ground for the Royals, as Joseph Duff worked hard to keep them at bay. Two short corners for the Royals failed to convert, and play remained even with equal opportunity for both teams to score. The score remained nil-all at half time. Into the second half and a good run from Zac Staude for Crusaders saw a short corner gained. Henry Dahlitz defended well for the Royals to prevent any score from the Crusaders. Indianna Woodall in goals produced a great save for the Royals, as Marc Rowsell fought hard to gain another short corner for his team. Great team play from Sam Gogel eventually led to a Crusaders goal. This got Royals working hard to attack, Bhavishay Jangra scoring in retaliation against Crusaders. Another quick goal through James Duff for Royals put them in the lead. However, this was again equalled by a goal from Zac Staude for the Crusaders, leading to a 2-all draw at full time. Crusaders 2 drew with Royals 2 Crusaders- Best Players: Sam Gogel, Zac Staude, Joseph Duff. Goal Scorers: Sam Gogel, Zac Staude. Royals- Best Players: James Duff, Bhavishay Jangra, Henry Dahlitz. Goal Scorers: Bhavishay Jangra, James Duff. Knights v Kings The game between the Knights and Kings started with even play. Both teams worked hard to push forward, as Bonnie Johnson and Ruby Glancy for the Knights were working well together to try and take the advantage for their team. Their teamwork paid off, as Jade Schneider scored for Knights after a pass in front of goals. The Kings kept persisting, Daniel Obst working hard on the wing, supported by James Patterson. Kings gained some chances near goal; however they were met with a strong defence from the Knights. Early in the second half Knights were again placing pressure on the Kings defence. Chloe Andersen was playing consistently in defence for the Kings, and Mikayla Patterson in goals was making some great saves early on. Mary Green in position on the post was able to produce a goal after some persistent attack from the Knights. Kings picked up the pace with Maverick Hutchins and Zack Martin running the ball into their forward line, however goalie Karl Dahlitz for Knights cleared the shot on goal. Kings kept up the pressure, drawing a short corner, resulting in a goal from Zack Martin. Kings kept up the momentum, taking on the Knights defence with renewed vigour. They scored again through some great play from Zack Martin. The pace picked up as Knights looked for a further goal to put them in front, however they could not convert off a final short corner in the final moments of the game. Knights 2 drew with Kings 2 Knights- Best Players: Riley Colls, Mary Green, Eden Muster. Goal Scorers: Jade Schneider, Mary Green. Kings- Best Players: Justin Merrett, Lachlan Ruchs, Mikayla Patterson. Goal Scorers: Zack Martin 2. Women Bordertown v Keith Crows Sarah Densley started the game off strongly for the Keith Crows with support from Anna Dawes. Sophie Greenslade for Bordertown was strong in defence, as Amy Drabsch kept the ball in the forward line, producing a strong hit to Mieka Woodall. A close attempt at scoring was prevented by the Wozzies goalie Georgie Cornford, as Linda Andersen both attacked and defended for Bordertown, the ball travelling back and forth. Keith eventually broke through to score a goal through junior player Brydie Hamilton, supported well by Ruby Glancy. This was quickly followed by another from Nikki Schreiber as the Crows gained momentum. Bordertown tried to stop any further attempts on goal, however Keith gained yet another advantage as they scored through Mieka Woodall. The second half began with Wozzies once again in defence, as Ryan Boyd and Georgie Cornford held out countless attacks. Bordertown then quickly pushed forward with a clear run as Sophie Greenslade snuck the ball past the goalie for Wozzies’ first goal. Keith again took control of the attacking play with Sarah Densley and Zack Martin looking dangerous near the goal, but the Wozzies defence held up. Chloe Andersen and Ruby Glancy went head to head in a great tackle on the outer wing. A forward push from Keith resulted in a short corner with Ryan Boyd clearing the ball well. Wozzies continued to block Keith’s attempts on goal; however Clarry Martin eventually converted with a hard shot from the top of the circle. Laura Nash worked tirelessly to bring the ball into Bordertown’s forward line, however no scores resulted. Keith ended the game with a series of corners, well defended by Andrea Taylor for Bordertown. No further goals resulted. Keith Crows 4 d. High School v Mundulla A hard attack was seen early on from Mundulla, as they brought the play towards the High School goals. Holly Pietsch and Sarah Halliday performed well under the initial pressure, as they were backed up by goalie Sonya Hunt. Play continued as High School attempted to clear the ball from their defence and move forward into attack. Mundulla were able to gain a short corner, which was rewarded with a strong goal from Christy Carter. Mundulla continued to attack drawing more short corners and taking control of the play. Lauren Krause in defence for High School defended their advances solidly, as High School turned the play around, bringing the ball near the Mundulla’s defensive goal and into their attack. However, Carla Wallis in goals for Mundulla prevented any High School score. High School came out in the second half with renewed enthusiasm, drawing some short corners. Finally, after a pass from Holly Pietsch into the circle High School scored through Kimberley Wagenknecht. With scores even the game progressed to another level. Koby Bamford and Thomas Halliday for Mundulla defended well against the continued High School attack through Kate Krause and Rin Kozona. Despite their best efforts, High School could not prevent a great display of skill from Christy Carter as she broke through quickly to score Mundulla’s second goal. Lauren Kirk in defence for Mundulla was brought against High School forwards Bhavishay Jangra and Kimberley Wagenknecht, however their attempt on goal was prevented by goalie Carla Wallis. Mundulla remained strong throughout the game, a short corner capitalised on, as Christy Carter converted yet again for her team, producing the third and final goal Mundulla. Mundulla 3 d. High School 1 Mundulla- Best Players: Christy Carter, Marie Williams, Jessame Wagenknecht. Goal Scorers: Christy Carter 3. High School- Best Players: Holly Pietsch, Kimberley Wagenknecht, Sonya Hunt. Goal Scorers: Kimberley Wagenknecht. Men Mundulla v High School The game began with both teams light on players. High School led the attack with a near goal, however Mundulla fought back sending the ball into their circle, only to be deflected off the post. High School managed to gain the first short corner for the game, but they were unable to convert. Some wonderful passing through the midfield sent the ball back into the High School’s attack, but it did not stay their long as Mundulla fought back, drawing a short corner. Back in High School’s attack, Scott Staude took on the Mundulla goalie to push the ball into the back of the goals for the first score of the game. Mitch Stone tried hard to bring the ball into Mundulla’s attacking circle, however was stopped by Sam Staude, bringing High School into their forward half once more. Tony Krop sent the ball back into Mundulla’s attack, however once in the circle it was neatly cleared by High School goalie Jake McCallum. James Verco was consistently strong in High School’s defence, with Sam Staude and Matthew Wagenknecht working together well in the centre. Dylan Jenkin drew a short corner for Mundulla; however nothing more amounted before half time was called. The second half commenced with High School bringing the ball forward into their attack. This was short lived as Reilly Sanders for Mundulla worked his way forward to score their first goal. With the scores now even Mundulla kept the pressure on. However, High School seemed undeterred as they ran the ball down the field, Brody Lock passing to Bob Gensicke who converted a goal for the team. High School used their new found confidence to lead several more attacks, and in the dying minutes tensions rose between teams. Play continued back and forth however neither team made any further score before full time was called. High School 2 d. Mundulla 1 High School- Best Players: Scott Staude, Nathan Pietsch, Matthew Wagenknecht. Goal Scorers: Scott Staude, Bob Gensicke. Mundulla- Best Players: Reilly Sanders, Paul Boston, Tony Krop. Goal Scorers: Reilly Sanders. Bordertown v Willalooka The game began quickly for Willalooka as they attacked hard. Rangers retaliated, pushing past the defences for an early missed opportunity on goal. Matt Day had a high shot on goal for Willalooka, missing the goals by hitting the corner post. Derek Butler moved quickly for Bordertown, directing play in the centre. Fill-in Nathan Pietsch reinforced the short Rangers side, playing a strong defensive game, as Zac Staude for Willalooka looked fast on the wing as he strived for an opportunity on goal. Eventually gaining a short corner, Willalooka were unable to capitalise, however regained control to draw another short corner, only to miss off the post. Bordertown attempted to bring the ball into their attacking half as Caleb Duff used his skill to push past the Willalooka defence. However, Willalooka again got it back for another short corner, just missing the goals with a hard shot from Matt Day. Ryan Smith and Nathan Pietsch worked hard to clear the ball, as Nick Murdoch took the opportunity to move into Rangers’ forward line. Simon Day for Willalooka remained consistently strong in defence, clearing the ball back to attacking players. Neither team could convert a goal to gain the upper hand on the opposition. Josh Victor produced some strong hits for Bordertown, but failed to bring attacking opportunities to the game as Jake Lebrocque worked against his advances along the wing. Eventually Matt Day broke through to score the first goal for the game to bring Willalooka into a winning position before half time. The second half began with Rangers attacking early as they pushed forward for some shots on goal. They finally levelled the score through a high goal from Nick Murdoch. Short corners drawn at both ends were unable to produce any goals. Trent Stewart worked hard in the centre for Rangers, however could not prevent another Willalooka short corner. Ash Blackwell remained persistent for Bordertown, helping to push into their attack. Dave Prosser defended strongly, passing through to Barry Butler and Jake Lebrocque, who advanced into Willalooka’s attack. Todd Battersby supported the attack well as Scott Hamilton directed some good play in the centre. Josh Victor and Nathan Pietsch kept the pressure on the opposition, Dave Prosser once more clearing the ball. Despite their efforts, neither team could further gain an advantage as the game ended with a draw.
