Retention−Activity Relationship Models of Tricyclic Antidepressants by Micellar Liquid
Chromatography. Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. 1999. 42(16), pp. 3154-3162.
This research presented in this article presents the use of a particular type of liquid chromatography known as
Micellar Liquid Chromatography (MLC). MLC has been used to emulate in vitro the partitioning procedure of biomembranes in this experiment. A particular type of mobile phrase, micelluar solutions of BRil35, in the reverse-

barbiturates, catecholamines, and benzodiazepines.

Action in Mediating the Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Black Cohosh and Related Cimicifuga species on
Human Primary Blood Macrophages. Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. 2009 52 (21), pp. 6707-6715.
This article present research of biologically active compounds derived from Cimicifuga species of an herbal
substance. One of the instruments used to biologically purify the compound mixture was high-pressure liquid
chromatography and the extraction was completed by using partitioning extraction. This process of using both
partitioning extraction and HPLC helped researchers purify and isolate the rhizome extracts of Cimicifuga
racemosa.

of Antimitotic Thioglycosides: In Vitro and in Vivo Evaluation of Their Anticancer Activity. Journal of
Medicinal Chemistry. 2011. 54 (19), pp. 6949-6955.
This article displays research done in synthesis of biological compounds oleylN-acetyl-α- and β-D-glucosaminides
and their thioglycosyl analogues. These compounds showed to be anti-mitotic on rat glimoa and human lung
carcinoma. The cell extracts were analyzed using a liquid chromatography with a mass spectrometry detector. Th
LC-MS showed that the glycosides induced changes to the glycosphingolipid metabolism. Thus, in vitro
experiments with the thioglycosyl analogues showed to decrease the amount of tumor being induced.
COMMON USES FOR LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY
Liquid Chromatography is used for separation of compounds that have more of the attributes or characteristics of
a liquid substance. Different instrumentation related to liquid chromatography, such as HPLC are used to help
quantify the concentration of a substance, while other various LC instruments are used to characterize and
indentify liquid-like compounds.
