Request for proposal Consulting archivist, sole practitioner or firm Northwest Kidney Centers in Seattle seeks an experienced archivist – individual or firm – to guide the establishment of permanent archives at our organization, the world’s first out-of-hospital dialysis provider. Work will begin early in 2016. The mission of Northwest Kidney Centers archives is to preserve, organize and share information about developments in kidney patient care, education and research by our organization and others with whom we work. Within the span of an 18-month engagement, working 120 to 140 hours per month, the consultant will: Survey accumulated materials. Recommend and implement systems for collections management and access, including web access. Draft policies, procedures and forms related to collection development and appraisal, preservation, accessioning, processing and access for physical, born-digital and digitized materials. Perform initial appraisal, ingest, arrangement and description of accumulated materials. Develop ideas for outreach through museum exhibits, community presentations or online features about significant archives holdings. Create metrics and tracking system for ongoing assessment of archives operation and use. Assist in hiring a part-time permanent staff archivist who will maintain the archives in accordance with established procedures. Consultant will work independently in a brand new climate-controlled suite especially developed for archives at 700 Broadway, Seattle. The space is adjacent to Northwest Kidney Centers’ dialysis museum, established in 2012. Should know: Current practice in archives management, processing and preservation. Intellectual property law. Regulations regarding health care patient privacy. Should have: Master’s degree in archives management or certified archivist certificate. Significant experience with archival appraisal, accessioning, processing, and outreach. Proficiency with specialized archives technology, software and tools, as well as standard business technology tools including web and social media applications.
