Hello MNS Families,
I hope everyone is finally getting dug out from
the past two weeks of stormy weather in Saint
John. It looks like we’re going to be getting a
break from all the white stuff during the week
ahead. Attached is some information for the
week ahead.
Grade 3 Early FI Parent Information Session
took place on Wednesday, February 4 at
Millidgeville North School at 6:30 P.M. Many
thanks to the interested parents and district
personnel who helped facilitate the evening for
grade 2 students attending MNS next year.
Grade 6 Late FI Parent Information Session will
take place on
Tuesday February 17 at Princess Elizabeth
School 6:30 PM. This session is for parents and
students in Grade 5 English who may be
interested in the Late French Immersion
Program.
Grade 6 French Oral Proficiency Interviews:
The Assessment and Evaluation Branch of the
Department of Education and Early Childhood
Development is currently planning French oral
proficiency evaluations involving a random
sample of Grade 6 students in the Anglophone
sector. Information packages are being sent
home today with selected students in
preparation for the Oral Proficiency Interview.
During the week of February 9th – 13th your
child will participate in an Internet Safety
Presentation at his or her school. On Monday,
February 9th, Mr. Phil Sweezey (Technology
Mentor – ASS_D) will be facilitating a series of
mini lessons with students at each grade level.
The Internet has changed the way we
communicate. With this change comes a new
set of precautions of which students need to be
aware. This includes how to remain safe online
and an awareness of the risks involved in
sharing photos, videos, or personal information
whether it’s via a computer, a game console, a
tablet, or a cell phone.
We encourage you to take some time to discuss
with your child the information they received.
By having these discussions at home, you will
help reinforce important safety strategies
learned at school and ensure your child is better
prepared to properly deal with difficult
situations she/he may encounter.

Philip Sweezey ( District Technology Mentor) will
facilitate a Safer Internet session with all of our

Cafeteria for grade level presentations. On
Tuesday, Feb 10th, students will author “
positive Internet Safety statements” using 140
characters or less that we will share on the
Internet via school twitter @MNSStars to
promote safe internet practices. You can follow
the conversation using the hash

Grade 5 Intensive French Students have made
the mid-year transition between Ms. Craig and
Ms. Chamberlan’s classes this week. Everyone
seems to be adjusting nicely despite the winter
storms. Grade 5 Intensive French is a second
language model in which French is taught
intensively in grade five for at least 70% of the
day over a five-month period for about 270
hours. The Intensive French semester is
preceded or followed by about 45 hours of
French instruction, preferably offered in blocks
of time through the week. The two semesters
result in approximately 315 hours of second
language instruction during the grade 5
Intensive French year. During the five-month
Intensive French semester some subjects are
not taught to allow for 270 hours of Intensive
French. Mathematics is taught in English
throughout grade 5 and generally so are music
and physical education. During the semester
before or after the Intensive French term, all
subjects are taught according to the
recommended time allocations. Some content
curriculum outcomes will need to be adjusted as
a result of the time dedicated to Intensive
French.
TTFM: Tell Them For Me student Survey will be
