March 10, 2014 To: The Church family at St. Andrew United Methodist Church From: St. Andrew United Methodist Church Board of Trustees We want to keep you informed regarding repairs that are needed for our building facilities. As many of you have noticed, with the major rains last year we experienced some roof leaking in both the Keheley Building and the Sanctuary. Fortunately, the roofing experts have confirmed that we do not need a new roof on the Sanctuary, just some repair work. We were not that fortunate in the Keheley Building. The Trustees have been working for over a year to assess and make minor repairs in Keheley, but the damage to the roof is beyond repair and we are facing a total replacement. The original roof was anticipated to last about 15 years and we are coming up on the 15th anniversary of opening the building. While initial reports were optimistic that our insurance company would share in some of the liability for the roof, the final result, after months of appeal, is that we will be responsible for the replacement. We now have a new insurance company that is also saving us money in monthly premiums. The air conditioning system in Keheley has also reached the point for replacement and we are looking at major costs in this area, as well. Overall, we expect our needs to be about $100,000 for the air conditioning system and the roofing issues. We want to move quickly on these repairs to be prepared for spring rains and to have air conditioning when the temperature gets warmer. Since these repairs are outside of our normal operating budget, we are looking to church family to help support these improvements. We have faith that our church family will step forward to contribute as God leads them. We are planning a “Raise the Roof – A Step Above” pot luck lunch after the service on March 23rd. We are asking that all families pray about this issue and bring pledges for gifts to go towards the repairs by this time. Also, if you are prepared to make an initial gift, please bring or send it on the 23rd! Thank you for continuing to make St. Andrew a special place for all of us.
