It is a great privilege for me to serve AAPG as Division of Professional Affairs president this
year. I can tell you up front that DPA has many exciting new ideas to energize AAPG and
this Division. I believe AAPG and DPA are best in the world at helping professional
geologists turn prospects into discoveries. We are passionate about providing global energy
while pursuing professional excellence. This success drives the economic engines of our

AAPG and DPA is sent to the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists.
New Reserves Classification Guidelines available
Guidelines for Application of the Petroleum Resources Managmeent System (PRMS) is now
available for free download as a PDF.
Issue Advisory: Research and Development Needs of the U.S.
Independent Oil and Gas Producer
This paper identifies five technical areas essential to enabling the nation’s independent oil
and natural gas producers to deliver the petroleum resources that U.S. consumers require
for everyday living. It was prepared as a reference document for the use of the AAPG
Geoscience & Energy Office in Washington, D.C. as it communicates with policy makers.

SPE Launches PetroWiki, an Online Resource for E&P
Knowledge-Sharing
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) recently announced the launch of a pilot for a new
knowledge-sharing site called PetroWiki. PetroWiki will be the online resource to research and
share knowledge about E&P industry operations, ranging from basic engineering calculations
to best practices appropriate to specific regions, formations, or resource types.
