Office of Government Commerce ‘Quick Wins’ for Greening Government Purchasing With the recent publication of the Energy White Paper on sustainable procurement by government, the pressing issue is to make it easy for public sector customers to locate and buy energy efficient products. Certain product areas have been acknowledged as ‘Quick Wins’ – where particular standards should be met immediately. To obtain a summary and full version of the Energy White Paper http://www.dti.gov.uk/energy/whitepaper/index.shtml to visit the DTI website. please click on the link below In response to this paper, the OGC have prepared a downloadable document containing a list of environmentally friendly products that are available from their GCat and Portfolio catalogues to help you easily and quickly identify products that meet the following Quick Win Specifications: Energy saving Recycled content Carbon emissions Energy consumption in use Volatile organic compounds Organic ingredients Biodegradability Please bookmark the OGC page below as the following list of environmentally friendly products will be frequently updated. Visit regularly as the OGC plan to further enhance and develop this new information area. http://www.ogcbuyingsolutions.gov.uk/environmental/environmental_quickwins.asp In the meantime, the current list (as of 12 May 2003) is following: Product type The ‘quick win’ specification WHERE TO FIND Office supplies Personal computers (2) PC monitors (2) Portable computers (2) Copying paper * Energy saving: G-cat under: Computer to meet current ‘Energy Star’ requirements 1 Hardware and Systems Integration Energy saving: G-cat under: Monitor to meet current ‘Energy Star’ requirements 1 Hardware and Systems Integration Energy saving: G-cat under: Maximum off-mode consumption of < 2 watts 1 Hardware and Systems Integration Recycled content: Please speak to Tate’s account manager at AB Distributors: David Martin AB Distributors Unit 3 Granville Industrial Estate London NW2 2LD Telephone 020 8458 7392 Fax 020 8458 0906 Mail dm@.abdistributors.com 2 Value Added Resellers 2 Value Added Resellers 2 Value Added Resellers 100% recycled Minimum of 75% post-consumer waste ** Product choice dependant upon specific end use 2 Product type Paper for printed publications * The ‘quick win’ specification WHERE TO FIND Please speak to Tate’s account manager at AB Distributors: David Martin AB Distributors Unit 3 Granville Industrial Estate London NW2 2LD Telephone 020 8458 7392 Fax 020 8458 0906 Recycled content: Minimum 60% (of which 75% postconsumer waste) Mail dm@.abdistributors.com ** Product choice dependant upon specific end use Cars Carbon emissions: UK Vehicle Excise Duty band ‘A’ or ‘B’ (i.e., CO2 emissions < 150g/km) To access the INLAND REVENUE contract for Lease, Hire and Consultancy contact Malcolm Noyle, Green Fleet Manager, at Lloyds TSB Autolease. Targets will be developed as part of the Framework for Sustainable Development on the Government Estate. 8
