Maintenance Technician
DEPT:

REPORTS TO:
Transportation Services Manager
FLSA STATUS:
Full Time/50 weeks
HOURS PER WEEK: 40
POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE: Perform basic handy man functions on electrical, plumbing and
general building and grounds upkeep. Drive the school bus daily.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 Participate in maintaining program compliance with Performance Standards, Area IV policies,
procedures and program plans and all other regulations and guidelines directing program operations.
 Perform required ground’s inspection and maintenance duties, repair the full range of maintenance
equipment, and perform daily cleaning and custodial duties including stocking facility supplies for
Clinton County facilities.
 Coordinate maintenance requests to recommend the best options for Director
 Coordinate special facilities projects such as moving offices, painting and others as needed
 Report the needs for services from a repair technician to Head Start Director.
 Maintain necessary program records and complete reports as necessary.
 Do weekly grocery shopping
 Drive the bus daily.
 Perform monthly evacuations on the bus.
. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 The ability to effectively communicate in English with staff, clients, and inter/intra agencies.
 The ability to project a positive image of the agency to the community.
 Understanding of State and Federal traffic laws and transportation regulations with ability to obtain
Class C CDL and State School Bus Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 The ability to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable
accommodations to sit, stand, bend and reach with manual dexterity sufficient to operate bus, make
precise arm-hand movements and maintain static arm-hand position.
 Make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects.
 Requires normal range of smelling, hearing and vision.
 May require lifting up to 40 pounds.
 Possess ability to handle exposure to inclement weather.
 Ability to physically pass CDL examination, including required drug screen, and Indiana Department
of Transportation and Indiana School Bus certification skills tests.
 Proof of or willingness to successfully obtain Department of Transportation physical examination,
including required drug screen with required DOT follow-up exams. Employee will also be subject
to random drug and alcohol screens as required by Department of Transportation.
 Annual proof of negative TB test.

Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
 High School Diploma or equivalent
 Strong organizational skills and ability to complete assigned tasks independently.
 Class C, Commercial Drivers License, Indiana State School Bus Certification or ability and
willingness to obtain.
 Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
 Must possess the ability to evaluate and react to change in positive and productive manner.
 Must possess the ability to exercise critical thinking skills to solve problems.
 Must have the ability to maintain client confidentiality and to exercise ethical judgment, integrity,
dependability and accountability in the performance of duties.
 A clear criminal history screening and Policy Council approval.
