The first marriage records contained only the bride’s name, groom’s name, officiate, and date of marriage. By the 1900s, marriage records contained all of the above information plus the parents’ names of both parties as well as the church or court house they were married. Each state and county has a different history. It is best to contact that state or county for details pertaining to their records. 4. Take the Marriage Record for Irvine E. Kline out of the packet along with the blank worksheet. Take a moment to review the record and note how the record is broken down into three parts: groom, bride, officiate. Now answer the following questions: a. How old is Irvin E. Kline at the time the application was completed? b. What is Irvin E. Kline’s occupation? c. What is the bride’s father’s name? d. Who was the minister for the marriage? e. What was the groom’s mother’s name? When you have completed all parts of the packet take it up the Genealogy staff member. They will remove only the worksheets, not the charts, group sheet, or samples, for further review and give back the packet. Then the staff member will answer any of your questions and assist you with using resources that may help you to continue your research.
