We have a few things to keep in mind this year:
1. Lunch is slightly later in the day, so it is important that students bring a snack.
Snacks need to be healthy, e.g. Fruits, Nuts, Juice, Water. Items such as candy and potato chips
will not be allowed. PLEASE BRING A WATER BOTTLE EVERY DAY!
2. This year we have implemented “DEAR” time. This is “Drop Everything And Read”. Every student
should have reading materials with them every day. This should be a printed item; an actual book,
magazine, comic book, etc. reading on electronics will not be permitted during this time.
3. We are working to book our annual Grade 5 Space Camp trip. This year the trip will be happening in
early June. There will be a representative from Space Camp at BLIS to speak with students about the
camp on Friday the 26th. Parents; we will hold a special presentation for you specifically at a later date,
please do not attend the presentation for the students. This presentation is meant for them and will not
contain the information you would be interested in. Space Camp is a fantastic once in a lifetime
opportunity that our 5th graders have been lucky enough to participate in for several consecutive years.
4. Mr. Andrew Dittgen will be working with the entire middle school in preparation for what is sure to be
a spectacular joint musical effort between the BLIS middle school choirs and the Bilkent Symphony
Orchestra. This event will occur on Saturday April 25th. It is sure to be fantastic!
