Air Cylinder Safety
The club has two compressed air cylinders which are filled to a maximum pressure of 300
Bar. If handled properly they are perfectly safe.
1) Always ensure the cylinder is either laid on its side or standing upright on a stable surface. Ideally if
standing upright it should be secured to something by a rope, chain etc
2) Never drop, throw or mishandle cylinders in any way (e.g. roll along the ground like a barrel)
3) Never strike cylinders or the valve, gauge etc. with any implement.
4) Always keep cylinders away from extreme high temperatures.
5) You should never completely empty a cylinder. If this happens by accident, close the valve and have
it refilled as soon as possible.
6) Never over tighten the main (open/close) valve or bleed valve. As tight as thumb and one finger of
one hand should be sufficient for a valve in good working order.
7) Never use any tool to close the main valve or bleed valve.
8) Do not severely bend the fill hose.
9) Please report any damage or fault noticed on the cylinder or valve, gauge etc immediately to a
committee member.
10) Never use a cylinder as a hammer (e.g. to knock in ground pegs etc)
11) If transporting a cylinder in a vehicle, ensure it is secured, preferably away from the rear of the
boot/van doors with the valve facing sideways. Ideally you should display a compressed air sticker on
your vehicle when transporting although this is not a legal requirement.
Remember - A filled compressed air cylinder is an explosive device equivalent to a hand
grenade and must be treated as such. This is the result of a cylinder exploding in a car

Close the bleed valve on the cylinder.
Note the fill pressure for the rifle.
Remove any protective cover from the rifle fill nozzle.
Remove the protective cover from the quick fill adapter if using a ‘best fit’
coupling.
Attach your fill adapter to the cylinder (using quick connector on the
cylinder or by removing the quick connector hose from the cylinder and
attaching your own hose / adapter) NB – you should only need to finger
tighten the hose onto the cylinder or at most pinch tighten with a spanner.
DO NOT TIGHTEN WITH FORCE.
Connect the fill adapter to the rifle.
Open the main valve of the cylinder. The club bottles are fitted with a
safety valve. The pressure on the gauge will quickly rise to about 100 bar
then rise slowly after that. Fill the rifle until the safe working pressure (WP
or SWP) is reached then close the main valve DO NOT FILL ABOVE THE WP
OF YOUR GUN.
NB – you should only need to close the main valve using thumb and one
finger. Closing any tighter is pointless and actually damages the seals.
Open the bleed valve on the cylinder to release the air in the fill hose.
Remove the fill adapter from the rifle
Remove the fill adapter from the quick connector hose and replace the
protective cover or remove your own hose and replace the club quick
connector hose.
