Amazing Famous American Bottle Statue Project You have been learning about a famous American. In class, you will writing a biography about this person. At home, you will be making a statue of your famous American. In order to prepare for this project, you should have an idea of what the person looked like, the style of clothing he/she would likely wear, and any needed accessories (hat, telescope, bow/arrow, etc). You should use whatever materials you think will enhance the bottle to make it look like the person you read about. Suggestions include, but are not limited to: Fabric, doll clothes, ribbons, jewelry, bows, yarn for hair, foil, construction paper, felt, pipe cleaners, buttons, beads, and feathers. You are encouraged to use Tacky Glue or hot glue (with your parent’s assistance) for the project. This type of glue works best. I strongly encourage parent involvement – just not your parents “doing” all the project. The famous American bottle statue project will need to be turned in on Thursday, April 9th. These bottle projects will be displayed during Open House Night. Materials: 2 litter clear soda bottle dirt, sand, or rocks to fill bottle glue scissors fabric for clothing yarn/string for hair paint or markers Styrofoam ball for head Craft wiggly eyes Instructions: 1. Clean and thoroughly dry the empty plastic bottle. Please make sure it is a clear and transparent bottle. Don’t use a bottle that is made with green plastic. 2. Fill ¼ of the bottle with dirt, sand, rocks, or something to stabilize it. 3. Decorate the Styrofoam ball to create the head. You may paint it to have a more skin looking color. Glue the craft eyes, include a nose and mouth. Use yarn to make the hair. I will be providing the yarn, Styrofoam ball and eyes for all the students. You will just need to tell me what kind of colored yarn you need. 4. Make a small hole on the Styrofoam ball and place it on the top of the bottle to form the head. Don’t forget to glue it. 5. If you want, construct arms for the bottle person by using pipe cleaners, cardboard, or other items and glue them in place. Hands are an optional detail. 6. Use old clothes/fabric, doll clothing, and other materials to create an outfit for the bottle statue that would be typical of what was worn during the famous person’s life. Glue to the bottle. 7. You can add items that the person might have used during their lifetime. The famous American bottle statue project is due on Thursday, April 9th.
