Welcome and Introductions – Elizabeth and Thad 2. Tale of Two Austins Campaign a. Recap TOTA Training: We had a total of 14 attend. Attendees seemed to find the training useful, and several said that they liked being able to tie in their own call to action specific to their agency. b. Review behavioral health campaign analytics: 3,657 Facebook post reach vs. last campaign’s 7,843 post reach; downturn could be due to Facebook’s changes in paid/unpaid posts or less popular topic of interest. Twitter results showed good engagement and the notable new followers. c. Discussion: what worked/opportunities for improvement: Attendees proposed asking One Voice EDs to forward on the next campaign information to their communications staff during a membership meeting before the campaign launch. Attendees also expressed a desire to build One Voice’s online audience before the next campaign. ACTION: Jadeline will use the Facebook “Suggest” feature to suggest that those on the One Voice email list like the One Voice Facebook page. d. Review draft statistics for workforce infographic to launch in September: The Committee expressed desire to change 4th statistic (“over 2/3 of Hispanic adults…”) to reflect a broader demographic. Kevin proposed a statistic from CAN report (“Only 13% of low income central tx high school graduates complete a college degree within 6 years”). The following are the proposed statistics for the infographic. #1 best City for job seekers (Nerdwallet 2013) #1 best economy in the country (The Business Journal’s On Number , 2013) # 6 most tech savvy digital city (Center for Digital Government , 2013) Over ½ of jobs (57% created from 2009 to 2013) in the Austin area did not pay families a living wage (Economic Modeling Specialists International, 2014) #1 most economically segregated major metro area in the US (Martin Prosperity Institute, 2015) 1/5 adults cannot read or write well enough to fill out a job application (American Community Survey, US Census Bureau, 2008 and 2003 #2 best City for future job growth (Forbes 2014) National Assessment of Adult Literacy) 7/8 of low-income Central Texas high school graduates do not earn a future degree within 6 years of completing high school (CAN) ACTION: Kevin will ask E3 Alliance if they have longer term data on the percentage of lowincome high school graduates never earn a future degree (not just for 6 years after graduating). Lily will ask Maegan if the statistic “1/5 of adults cannot read or write well enough to fill out a job application” is still current since the statistic came from 2008 and 2003 aggregated data. 3. Op-ed on Homestead Exemption a. Review messaging: Committee recommends the membership approval of the op-ed with replacement of the phrase “opportunity youth”. b. Discuss best methods for distribution to maximize reach and impact: Attendees suggested asking members to cross-post the article on their own blogs, social media, and websites. 4. Branding a. Discuss logo design: Committee envisions a clean, modern logo design, accompanied with a tagline. Attendees brainstormed the following wording for a tagline: A voice for the voiceless Our collective voice is that much louder Partners in… Lifting the community together Improving organizations and policy to improve the wellbeing of our community Putting people first ACTION: Jadeline will create a place for logo ideas to be shared amongst Committee members. Committee members will submit 10 potential taglines or phrase ideas through a Surveymonkey form and other organizations logos that they like by June 15th. 5. May membership training on how to use social media to communicate with policymakers a. Recap highlights of training: Influence Opinions presented ideas on how to integrate your cause into existing online conversations/movements through social media. IO also presented analytics of the Tale of Two Austins Behavioral Health campaign and provided recommendations to boost engagement. b. Discuss opportunities to further educate EDs on social media: Attendees proposed engaging members at a meeting in a brief live tweet session, where meeting attendees can engage/teach one another. ACTION: Thad will ask Amy Atchley if she can assist in leading One Voice members in this exercise.
