Dear Parents, Carers,
Happy New Year to you all!
The first week is completed and the children have returned refreshed and ready for another busy year
6 term. You will have received your curriculum letter explaining this term is all about Ancient Egypt
and already the children are asking questions and becoming inquisitive. It really is a great topic.
As we build up to the end of Key Stage 2 Assessments (SATs), we will be grouping the children into
ability groups this term for maths called “Boosters.” We have worked with this programme in the
past and the children really see the benefits, gaining in confidence, developing positive self-esteem
and mixing as a year group. Teachers and pupils enjoy these sessions, however, if you have any
questions do ask.
I would like to also take this opportunity to welcome Mr David Evans who is a teacher working
alongside year 6 classes (Monday – Thursday). During that time Mr Evans will be taking PPA cover
for Miss Axton and Mr Bull and teaching a maths booster.
A reminder that homework is now set every 2 weeks, however children are asked to read daily,
practice tables and develop spelling strategies – educationcity is a great support for these skills.
Finally…We would like to invite you to a Little Canada and SATS Meeting on WEDNESDAY
25th FEBRUARY at 6pm (lasting approximately 40mins) in room 7.
The 1st half of the meeting we will talk briefly about the Key Stage 2 SATS (which take place
nationally from Monday 11th – Thursday 14th May) We will answer any questions or concerns that
you have and Mr Bull and myself will share our top tips!!
The 2nd half of the meeting we will talk about the activities planned for Little Canada (Monday 23 rd –
27th March) and discuss kit list, accommodation, food, medicines etc., and again answer any
questions that you have.
Wow lots going on – a kit list and medical information forms will be sent home nearer the time.
If you have any questions do pop in and ask.
Thank you for your support
Miss Axton & Mr. Bull.
Your Year 6 team.
