Core Curriculum Mini-Grants With the approval of Fr. Graham, the Core Curriculum Committee has repurposed previously allocated money for mini-grants designed for Xavier faculty and / or staff to use to facilitate the launch of the new undergraduate core curriculum. The mini-grants will be awarded to support program development or revision in order to enhance student learning in the new core. Up to $750 will be awarded, and can be taken as a stipend and/or to cover expenses associated with the program development. Proposals should clearly connect the project to specific Core Curriculum Goals and Student Learning Objectives. Examples of how the mini-grants might be used include, but are not limited to, the following: Addressing innovative approaches to meet core curriculum needs Resolving unique or program dilemmas Forwarding cross-functional innovation in courses Developing ways to realize interdisciplinary components of the new core curriculum The mini-grants are intended to encourage innovative, entrepreneurial, creative, strategic or cross-functional work in connection with meeting new core requirements. The mini-grants are not intended for individual course development, but may apply to a broader category of courses, such as the development of a particular group of perspectives courses, or the development of resources that might be used in flagged courses, etc. The mini-grants are not intended to replace existing sources of funding or to provide ongoing support for a program. Applications should include 1- 3 pages that clearly articulate how the proposal will meet one of the stated Goals or Student Learning Objectives of the new Core Curriculum. Applications should include a budget if applicable. To apply, send an electronic copy of your written proposal in care of Chair, Faculty Development Committee to Izola White (whitei@xavier.edu). In the proposal (including in the file name for the document sent to Izola White), include the date of application, your name, and “Core Mini Grant Application.” Also give a copy of your proposal to your department chair or program director and dean. The Faculty Development Committee will review proposals and recommend projects for the mini-grants to the Core Curriculum Committee, who will make recommendations to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, who will forward the two committees’ recommendations, along with his own, to the Provost who will have the final voice in approving projects. The Faculty Development Committee, the Core Curriculum Committee, and Faculty Committee will be informed of the recipients of the awards.
