Position Summary:
thread Resource & Referral provides services to families and child care providers
throughout the interior and northern regions of Alaska. The Program Associate works with
providers and the public through training, resources, mentoring, public and community
events and leadership. These duties are throughout the region and may include travel.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
PROGRAM DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT
1. Practice family centered and relationship based philosophy
2. Participate during program self-assessment and evaluation processes
3. Participate during Thrivalaska community assessment activities
4. Compliance with all Thrivalaska policies, procedures and guidelines, thread
Resource Referral Grant Scope of Work A-110, A-122 and A-144. Support,
implement and participate in program goal setting process to include strategic
planning.
5. Compliance with all policies, procedures and guidelines.
6. General office duties including; typing, faxing, record keeping, filing, mailings,
copying, follow up, organizing, customer service, reporting on projects and decision
making.
7. Answer telephone inquiries with positive and helpful responses. Be outgoing as the
“voice of thread.”
8. Ability to work with a diverse community in a variety of roles such as public events,
telephone, front desk and whatever arises. Diversity includes but is not limited to
languages, ages, cultures, abilities, economic and educational levels.
9. Continually seek out and process in-kind opportunities to include services and
supplies.
10. Follow procurement and accounting procedures including shopping when needed.
11. Actively seek out ways to reduce program costs whenever possible.
12. Maintain records of mini-grants/quality initiatives, receipts, travel and filing as
appropriate for projects.
13. Provide child care at board meetings.
CHILD, FAMILY & PROVIDER SERVICES
1. Assist in adult education and professional development experiences to early
childhood caregivers in a variety of programs.

2. Assist in creating adult education curriculum as appropriate based on consumer
needs.
3. Assist on special projects as needed.
4. Promote social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children as
appropriate in thread activities.
5. Communicate with children, family members, community members and providers
with respect and honor.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
1. Actively seek out partnerships with community members and agencies to enhance
program services and resources.
2. Enthusiastically promote all Thrivalaska programs.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. GED or High School Diploma.
2. 1 year minimum experience in customer service/working with the public.
3. 1 year experience in working in an office with duties comparable to those listed in
this job description.
4. May be required to drive own vehicle. Must have clean driving record and required
insurance documents.
5. Ability to follow principles of “strengthening families” that promote positive
interactions with families.
6. Good organizational skills.

7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
8. Excellent computer skills – must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office
programs.
9. Ability to operate general office equipment such as phone, fax, copy machine,
postage machine, computer, calculator, credit card machine, etc.
WORK LOCATION
1. Main thread office is located at 1908 Old Pioneer Way.
2. A secondary office is located at the Carol Brice Center.
3. Various public venues when needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Thrivalaska is a drug, alcohol and tobacco free workplace.
2. Some exposure to communicable diseases.
3. Noise level in work environment may be moderate to loud.
4. Office work, shopping and light yard work might be required (such as picking up
trash or raking).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Review and sign the Physical Job Description upon hire and annually
