Instructional Procedures:
1) Define emotions as a way you might feel. Ask students to name some emotions.
2) Ask students how they may show an emotion: for example, When I’m happy I smile.
3) Read “The Way I feel” by Janan Cain.
4) After reading, ask students about some ways in which the characters showed emotions in the
story; on their facial expressions and in their posture.
5) Play emotions charades with the students. Have them take turns picking an emotion out of the hat
then acting it out for their peers to guess.
6) After all emotions have been acted out/students have had a turn. Ask students how easy or hard it
was to guess some emotions and why.
