MUSEUM PROGRAM ASSISTANT
POSITION SUMMARY
This position assists with the planning, development and implementation of educational
and interpretive programs, public relations, exhibitions and archival and collections
management at the Dickinson Museum Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties: (3D)
 Assists with the planning and implementation of educational programming.
 Assists with public relations related to the museum center
 Assists with the archival and object collections management of museum
collections.
 Promotes museum educational programs.
 Assist with giving tours of Prairie Outpost Park.
 Assists with archival and object collections management.
 Receives, redirects and responds to a variety of communications.
 Works to promote teamwork within the department and within the City in general;
shares information with peers.
 Continually strives to improve the proficiency of their job performance and provide
a safe work environment.
 Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. As required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (position requirements at entry):
 Museum educational program planning procedures and techniques
 Museum Collections management procedures
 Familiarity with scanning and digital photography
 Written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
 Computer skills including Microsoft Office, familiarity with database programs;
 Using a variety of office equipment and related applications;
 Basic applied mathematical principles
 Spelling, grammar and English composition;
 Basic record keeping practices;
 Ability to be a self-starter, exhibits positive image and outlook when interacting with
the public and coworkers.
 Customer service techniques;
Judgment/Decision Making (2D):
 Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established policies and
procedures and some innovation.
 Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Refers unusual problems to
supervisor.
 Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments.
 Makes recommendations to procedures, policies, and practices.

RELATIONSHIPS
Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities (2D):
 May be assigned as lead worker over seasonal staff;
 May assist with training of other staff members.
Relation to Others (2D):
 Position requires regular contact with the public and employees and must be able to
communicate effectively.
 Communications may be one-on-one and small groups of people.
SKILLS
Education (6D) and Experience (3D) (position requirements at entry):
 Bachelor's Degree in History, Education, Museum Studies, or related field and up to three
years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to
successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Special Requirements (position requirements at entry):

Valid Driver’s License
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working Environment (1D):
 Work is performed within routine office environment with minimal exposure to
hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
 Positions in this class typically require: climbing, stooping, reaching, standing,
walking, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and
repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly
to move objects.
