ACMA Executive Meeting Thursday 24th July 2014, 8pm Present: A Wan, D Luo, A To, K Ng, M Chu, M Wong, C Lam, P Cheng, S Loo, K Liu, A Lim, H Yoon, V Tai Apologies: B Chen, M Ting, D Yeh, other YACMA Exec Matters Arising: - Richard is working in Whangarei, Alwin will take over minute taking until new secretary appointed Membership: - stick to doctors as members - possibility of associate members similar to YACMA arrangement Finances: - roughly $150,000 in the bank, according to Gee Hing's previous estimates, need around $500,000 for ACMA to be self-sustaining - Benson to clarify conference finances Mentorship: - 10 mentors, 43 mentees - a few mentors wanted only a couple of students, Kristine will divvy out the rest - mentorship topics will be according to what mentees want - query about non-ACMA mentors - Kristine more comfortable with ACMA members being mentors as ultimately she is responsible for the students - can encourage membership/offer free membership RMO members: - only one house officer ACMA member - Lance Yuan hasn't replied Carlos regarding being social rep - need for collective voice in Chinese doctor community - Paul says RMOs want networking, informal mentorship - difficulties in proving career talks for house officers, as it is already happening in hospitals and difficult to get groups of specialists together - possibility of RMO social events - incentive for RMOs for supervisor time at CME meetings - NSW has annual ball etc, ideas can be used for social events - discussed possibility for wider range of talks at CMEs YACMA - Retreat - lower numbers this year (28) - curriculum change has created less downtime for students - YACMA needs to change along with it - more interest in academic vs social events - next big events: clinical skills workshop, careers evening - need full time university employee to book rooms for workshop Newsletter: - next newsletter to go out soon (as planned after conference) - following newsletter to go out after CME Conference feedback: - conferences are most time efficient for CME points - need more appealing events for specialists - discussed having less CME dinners and more conferences - problem with sponsorship funds if less CMEs - conferences are a lot of work, but annual conferences will be easier as experience in organisation will carry over - feedback: about the same wanted biennial conference vs annual conference - although GPs mostly want biennial - need to differentiate ourselves from the many other GP conferences - depends on finances - could have 2 day conference - could make CMEs more time efficient? Eat during the talks? - possibility of non-medical ACMA meetings funded by a sponsor - famous people could come and talk - practical talk e.g. IT talks - plan to rejig member meetings - charity events - negotiate for free stalls at larger events - need to sit down and clarify what we want to do regarding member meetings - try to get ACMA members more involved Chinese Medical Resources: - discussion regarding CHAINZ with resources to produce podcasts or videos - use ACMA as a portal for Chinese health information - current information resources online are all over the place - need to have many contributors for such a database CME: Next CME meeting September 14th - Andrew Cho to speak on head and neck surgery - ask members for more mentors - advertise family picnic day - Adrian to ask Allen Liang's daughters to talk - Roseanne Liang - Andrew Cho talk for 30 mins, Roseanne talk for 60 mins - 1.5 CME points - Grand Park may be unavailable - Sun World not suitable - Imperial Chinese for AGM? - would be good to have parking - Hakka Hut in Albany if size can accommodate Upcoming Events: - Family Picnic Day on October 19th 1-3 pm One Tree Hill - Plan B: bowling in Panmure - ?ACMA/YACMA social event e.g. laser tag - AGM: November 9th Correspondence in/out: Richard to pass on mail box key Next meeting: Thursday 25th September, 8pm
