New Jersey State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution 2016 Fashion Design Contest Contest Rules & Requirements for Teachers & Leaders This is the NJDAR information for the 2016 Fashion Design Contest for students in grades 5 – 12. This contest recognizes students who love to sew ~ students from public, private and special services schools, Girl Scout troops, 4-H groups as well as those who just like to design clothing on their own at home. Each contestant must be sponsored by a local NJDAR chapter. A contestant may submit a maximum of two garments: one garment in the “FASHION” category and one garment in the “AMERICAN HISTORY” category. An individual will be eligible for only one category award. Small cash prizes are awarded for winners in first, second and third place. 2. Each garment must have a completed registration form, including a copy of the pattern envelope, with the garment. Garments submitted with illegible or incomplete forms will not be judged. 3. Each contestant must e-mail three digital pictures of the contestant wearing their garment. These pictures will be used in the Fashion Design Contest PowerPoint show, which will be presented at the NJDAR Spring Luncheon. Your contest entry indicates that NJDAR is permitted to use your images in this show. This is the only purpose for these images. They will not appear anywhere else. They will not be used to judge the garment. See “Contest Entry Form” for more details. Do not send printed photos – they are not acceptable for this requirement. 4. Teachers, leaders or parents may provide instruction, but the student must do the actual construction. 5. Send the garments folded flat in a box for easier return shipment. Do not include dress forms or hangers when submitting the garments. 6. 7. To be eligible, the garment may not have previously won an award in another sewing contest. The score sheet attached identifies elements that can be included in the garment, not all are required.
