Please explain how your project meets the criteria for financial support by the LSE Annual Fund.
The goal of Musicare is to establish a subcommittee that will be responsible for the maintenance and lending of Music Society’s equipment (as well as related technical support and consultation), and for increasing promotion and publicity of LSE’s music community via quality internet uploads.
As the sole provider of musical equipment, we dispense it to any society or department on a daily basis gratuitously. Given the time-consuming nature of this service, which is currently overseen by only our committee, we believe a dedicated team would greatly improve efficiency and reliability.
Due to heavy use and transportation, our equipment experiences weathering and misplacement, for which we require additional funds to sustain requests.
Building on a robust support system for lending and upkeep, the Musicare team can also help societies establish a digital presence. High quality video equipment will enable us to record future events and broadcast LSE’s vast talent and vibrant music scene, as well as provide an avenue for students to create their own videos, through our YouTube Channel. Other societies will also be able to make use of our expertise to gain greater publicity.
The project stems from the desire to advance LSE’s reputation as a leading institution for not only academic excellence, but the appreciation and cultivation of the Arts. A new Musicare team dedicated to equipment upkeep and digital promotion of the school’s music scene will generate
greater awareness of the school’s exceptional facilities. This is a selfenriching cycle as such an accessible path into LSE’s music scene will encourage interest from musically-minded potential students which in turn, will further invigorate our community. Moreover, this new online platform is unique in that it allows us to present more obscure scenes such as interviews with LSE musicians from different cultures, displaying diversity.
However, Music Society’s only source of funding is through membership fees, which should rightfully be used to support our own numerous events and 487 members who appear in vocal ensembles, orchestra, bands, and depend on us to manage the Music Practice Room. Further considering urgent needs to cater to the rest of the school, we have scant resources remaining to purchase other fundamental equipment, let alone pursue this more ambitious project.
How would you recognise the LSE
Annual Fund?
Does this project require future
Annual Fund
Support?
Why do you require funding for more than one year?
No
As our main sponsor, gratitude to the Annual Fund will be permanently attached to all of Musicare’s activities. It will be credited at all events facilitated by the team, and labels bearing the logo will be placed on the new equipment. The Fund will also be mentioned in all correspondence with societies borrowing equipment, and featured prominently on our website and new YouTube channel. Furthermore, we will display the logo on our Facebook posts and promotion posters so that those involved with
Music Society activities are aware that the Annual Fund has helped make them possible.
Project
Sustainability
Statement
The creation of the Musicare Team will improve accountability and sustain the quality of Music Society’s equipment. This also saves other societies from having to request funding for music equipment while enabling them to run top-quality events using our capital and expertise. Additional equipment such as a trolley and keyboard cases will facilitate secure transportation, and the recording equipment needed for our channel and website will publicise LSE’s talent for many years to come, as well as provide easy access to information for potential sponsors in order to secure funding in the long run.
Equality and
Diversity Statement
The society celebrates music’s universality and has never excluded any group. We provided equipment support to 9 National societies, 4 academic departments, and LSE arts, just this year. Additionally, the Musicare team will create a page on our YouTube channel solely to exhibit diversity through videos of inter-cultural events and songs in different languages.
