BAGS Activity 2 How Many People Were Buried Here? Archaeologists use skeletons to learn more about life in the past. They must figure out how many people were buried in a given place. Examine the set of bones on the table. Using the articulated (joined together) skeleton for reference, color in the bones that you see on the figure to the right. Are there any bones that you see more than once? How many people do you think were buried here? In prehistoric times, humans were sometimes buried with animals. Can you identify any animal bones on the table before you? How can you tell that they are not human? Which bones do you think are the most difficult for archaeologists to recover and identify? (Hint: think about size). 1 HORSE Image from www.tarloandgraham.com DEER Image from Kate Rose on Flicker. WOLF Image from www.mnh.si.edu
