Mapping of Cultural Creative Activities, Arts and Social Care – Suffolk There is increasing recognition that integrating cultural creative activities within social care, enabling people to have the chance to take part in the arts, brings positive outcomes to all involved. This includes people who use social care and community services; staff who work within social care or community services; family carers; the care business; artists, arts organisations and volunteers. Since 2013, Suffolk County Council’s Quality and Improvement Team and the Culture, Sport and Community Team have been working with Age UK Suffolk and Leading Lives to bring creative activity into social care and community provision in Suffolk. We seek to progress our vision by developing a proposal for a pilot project that leads to improvements in the health and well-being of people and family carers using social care and community provisions; replication, with identifiable adjustments as required; and effective use of resources to enable sustainability. This pilot project will focus on all people with dementia, specifically including people with learning disabilities and people with early onset dementia. To initiate this project, we will commission a mapping exercise to be completed by the end of September 2014. The mapping exercise will be used to understand the current activity in Suffolk, to highlight gaps in activity and to highlight good practice. This project is led by the Suffolk’s Cultural Creative Activities, Arts and Social Care Steering Group which includes Suffolk County Council’s Quality and Improvement team and Culture, Sport and Communities Team, Age UK Suffolk and Leading Lives. (This collective seeks to include other representative organisations within Suffolk). For more information please see the attached paper ‘Cultural Creative Activities, Arts and Social Care – Suffolk’ Mapping of provision, gaps and good practice The ‘Mapping Cultural Creative Activities, Arts and Social Care’ project will:Aim 1 2 3 Identify current activity in relation to cultural creative activities for people with dementia (including people with learning disabilities and early onset dementia) within social care and the community in the specific location of Ipswich, Suffolk. (Social care provision includes day services, respite services, residential, supported housing, and very supported housing. Community resources identified must take specific actions to be available and accessible for people with dementia and family carers, or must proactively seek to engage people with dementia and family carers) Highlight any gaps in provision through an understanding of cultural creative activities available for other people who use social care or community services in the whole of Suffolk. Identify five areas of good practice identified through completing aim 1 and 2 and a wider search of activity nationwide.
