Priority 1 – improve standards in English and
Mathematics at KS4
To continue to use staff appointments to create a continuum of excellent teaching in literacy and numeracy from KS2/4. To use funding from primary SEG grants, BHHS SEG and Welsh
Challenge to fund a numeracy/literacy programme, with vertical teaching across the key stages by specialists who will upskill the primary staff. Target 15/16 L2+ 62%
Priority 2 – improve pupils’ numeracy skills
Priority 3 – improve the quality of teaching to ensure that pupils make good progress in lessons
As above, with specific actions for numeracy within BHHS ( in response to Estyn recommendation)
A coaching programme will consolidate and continue to improve the quality of teaching across all staff, supported by triad lesson study working and the use of Class Watch to improve professional discussion and practice. To utilise recommendations of the Donaldson Report incorporating Digital Literacy into lessons.
Effective leadership at all levels is crucial to ensure excellent pupil outcomes and through a Priority 4 – increase accountability for improving standards and quality of provision of all leaders , especially through rigorous line management
Priority 5 – improve the rigour and accuracy of self-evaluation and improvement planning at both senior and middle leader levels
Priority 6 – improve partnership working with parents and the wider community coherent and stretching high quality programme of leadership development BHHS will build its leadership capacity, whilst maintaining its focus on improving the quality of learning and teaching. A Master’s module delivered by the OU and offered to all high schools and partner primary schools will meet the new deal for teachers. The second module to be offered in
15/16.
The Master’s module in leadership will be undertaken by middle and assistant heads, which will support their professional development and capacity.
The appointment of a Family Champion to stimulate parental engagement across the cluster, to raise aspirations and encourage inter-generational learning.
To use the appointment (in partnership with the British Council) of a Chinese assistant to stimulate links with China and engage language development with MAT pupils
To consolidate links with a large company (Welsh Water), seeking a partnership in developing pupils at 14-16 who are proficient in Stem subjects and digital literacy.
