By Stephanie Zerkel Biomes There are eight biomes all together, two water and six land; Tundra, Desert, Tropical rain forest, grassland, fresh water, salt water, Taiga, and temperate forest. A Biome is a climate with its animals and plants. All biomes are different, with different weather, all over the world. The Tundra is very cold in the winters and cool in the summers. The Tundra is mostly a cold and dry climate, but it does get about 6-25 centimeters of rain a year. Because of the cold and dry climate there are mostly funguses like; arctic moss, caribou moss, and bearberry. There are animals like Polar bears, seals, and caribou. In the Tundra a polar bear and a seal have a predator prey relationship, because the polar bear hunts the seal. A seals might migrate to a safer and wormer place to have their babies. Taiga can be located in Canada and middle Europe. It is very cold most of the year and it rains about eighty centimeters a year. There are many animals in the Taiga including a black bear, bald eagle, and a bobcat. Three plant examples would be; white fur, paper birch, and the balsam fir. The gray wolf is territorial; they urinate on the edges of their territory to keep other wolves and animals away. A bobcat and a snowshoe rabbit is an example of a predator and prey relationship; the bobcat eats the rabbit. The temperate forest is like the taiga but it has leaves. In the winter it is very cold, but in the summer it is worm to hot. It can be found in middle Europe and the eastern part on the United States of America. The temperate forest gets about 100-150 centimeters of rain every year. Deer, squirrels, and skunks, all are examples of animals in the temperate forest. An eagle eats a fat dormouse= a predator prey relationship. The tropical rainforest is very hot and very humid. It gets at least two hundred centimeters of rain a year, that’s a lot. There are a lot of different animals that live in the tropical rainforest like; a bangle tiger, the vampire bat, wagler’s pit viper, ect. There are also a verity of plants mostly trees, Bengal bamboo, coconut tree, and vines. A vampire bat will feed from a chimp that’s parasitism. A chip lives in the trees that could be a commensalism. Grassland is very hot, it any gets around 50-80 centimeters of rain a year, that’s not very much. In the grass land there is grass and few trees. Animals in the grassland are Lions, cheetah, jaguars, and crocodiles. Lions and cheetah and jaguars are territorial. Lions also prey on smaller animals. The desert biome is very hot in the winters and cooler winters, and only gets 2 centimeters of rain a year. There aren’t many plants or animals, cacti and weeds, spiders, snakes, birds. Snakes will eat the birds and the bird will live in the cacti. The salt water biome takes up most of the world and it also surrounds all the land on the world. Many fish and other animals live in the salt water biome like; whales, sharks, and a whole bunch of fish. It might be under water but there is still plants, plankton, algae, and sea weed. A commensalism relationship would be like the crab and a worm; the crab gives the worm a home but he isn’t affected. A predator- prey relationship would be like a shark and a sea lion. A fresh water biome can be found almost anywhere in the land, they are found in land like saltwater biomes are found out land. There is still fish and different animals but they are completely different. I freshwater biome is like a lake, river or a pond even, they can be found anywhere. You can find animals like freshwater fish, frogs, and duck. You can even find plants like lily pads, and duck weed. Fish eat insects that are in the freshwater biome, that would be a predator-prey relationship.
