Course offered Title Introduction to Yoga Mini Course Teaching Diploma Course Level 1 2 Advanced Teaching Tutor course (Start 2014?) 3 Continuing Professional Development Continuing Personal development 3 1,3 Levels These courses are taught at 3 levels, each level progressing from the previous level. Note these are not equivalent to NCEA levels. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) CPD is offered to enable yoga teachers to further develop their theoretical and applied knowledge and understanding of Yoga in their teaching practice. There are four areas that are considered CPD Area A = core modules offered by IYTA Area B = Participation – attending non-core workshops course seminars, conventions, research Area C = Related studies – recognition of studies that enhance your yoga teaching Area D = Service to the yoga community – teaching yoga, tutoring yoga, committee membership Areas A and B are offered by IYTA Introduction to Yoga Mini Course Title Level Co-requisites, prerequisites Introduction to Yoga Mini Course 1 This 3-month mini-course is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about the philosophy and practices of Yoga. It is suitable for beginners, those who are planning to go on to the longer Teacher Training Diploma or Yoga Study Course and those who would simply enjoy a Yoga refresher. To enable students to understand the fundamental principles of Yoga By the end of this course students will have an understanding of: The meaning of Yoga The fundamental principles of Patanjali’s Sutras Insights into the nature of higher consciousness What is Yoga Nature of higher consciousness History of yoga basic Sanskrit Styles and paths of yoga Classic texts of yoga Sutras: Patanjali , the eight limbs Yama and Niyama Asana -Alignment, flexibilities Standing poses, sitting kneeling poses, Salute to sun, balances, twists and inversions. Pranayama Pratyahara Dharana, Dhyana. Yoga Nidra. Chakras Sadhana Attend the Introduction to Yoga weekend and to the satisfaction of the Tutors , complete three monthly assignments 1. Non graded but tasks must be presented to an acceptable standard $570 Includes weekend accommodation with vegetarian food, tuition at workshop, main text, course booklet and assignments plus IYTA membership. Current IYTA member Paper based or on line + tutorial system 18 months Four workshop and 15 home based assignments (correspondence) This course is designed for those wishing to teach Yoga to the general public. To enable students to extend their personal and professional knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of Yoga in a safe and professional manner. By the end of this course students will demonstrate: In depth understanding of the key concepts covered in the strands Apply this understanding in designing and teaching to teaching in workshops and teaching a class from the community to the satisfaction of an allocated IYTA observer Comprehension and application of the strands as listed under contents Strands: Anatomy and physiology Asana Health and Wellbeing Inner disciplines Pranayama Philosophy and History Portfolio/ Research Sanskrit and Sound Teaching Requirements To meet the learning outcomes of this course you are required to : Assessment: 1.Nongraded Present and pass fifteen monthly assignments Attend and participate in all four compulsory workshop weekends Plan and teach aspects of yoga to peers at workshops Teach a minimum of 60 hours of yoga in the community which is observed and assesses by an accredited IYTA teacher Present a portfolio and annotated bibliography of 10 books on an approved yoga topic Hold a current comprehensive workplace first aid certificate 1. Non graded but tasks must be presented to an acceptable tertiary standard 2.Completion of each aspect to an acceptable standard 3. Portfolio, Journal and annotated bibliography 4. Teaching Costs (2013-14) Course Review Certification Minimum number 2. Each assignment task is given a pass or a re-submit. A resubmit must be completed before the next assignment 3. Portfolio , journal and annotated bibliography will be presented for final viewing at the last workshop 4a. Presentation of a yoga lesson to a community class is observed and assessed by an accredited IYTA teacher 4b. Teaching at workshops $3300 includes assignments and all four workshops (food accommodation and tuition), IYTA membership but excludes travel and text books. $825 deposit payable on enrolment At end of course 2014 .This course is subject to regular appraisal in light of tutor and student evaluation IYTA Teaching Diploma –IYTA Dip. May be officially used after graduation for advertising purposes. CPD and membership must be maintained for this entitlement. 20 Advanced Teaching – Yoga Tutor Course Title Level Co-requisites, prerequisites Advanced Teaching -Tutor course (Start 2014?) 3 Completed the IYTA Teaching Diploma or a yoga teacher training course approved by the IYTA education committee. Have submitted an application to become an IYTA tutor. Current IYTA member.
