Catholic Social Workers National Association, invites submissions of proposals and
poster presentations at the Association’s Conference to be held in Washington, DC, November
11-13, 2016. The annual conference contributes to the education and growth of social workers
who live out their Catholic faith in their daily practice and professional lives. CSWNA invites
you to submit proposals that will provide practical knowledge and insight into integrating our
Catholic faith and social work practice. The theme for this year’s conference is: Following the
Path of Christ.
Within the presentations, we strongly encourage integration of one or more of the seven
principles of Catholic Social Teachings: Life and Dignity of the Human Person, Call to Family,
Community and Participation, Rights and Responsibilities, Option for the Poor and Vulnerable,
The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers, Solidarity, and Care for God’s Creation along
with integration of the Papal encyclicals into social work practice. Submissions with attention to
issues such as living out our Catholic faith in the secular world in which we live, implementing
catholic social teachings in social work practice, family, subsidiary, self-determination and ethics
are highly encouraged as well. Presentations are either 45 or 90 minutes in length.
1. Proposals may be submitted for the following:
*Administration & Supervision
*Aging
*Alcohol, Tobacco, and other drugs
*Child Welfare
*Direct Clinical Practice
*Health
*Private Practice
*School Social Work
*Legislation
*Forensic Social Work
*Faith Based Social Work
*Marriage & Family
*Ethics
*Field Instruction
*Disabilities
Interdisciplinary participation is invited. Proposals may reflect practical application, research,
innovations in teaching and supervision, case studies, or policy analysis.
2. Presentation Selection
Proposals will be selected by a peer review committee. Presentation must have as their main
focus the implementation of the Catholic faith with social work and are consistent with the
teachings from the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.
3. Procedure for Submission
Please submit your proposals to cswna@cswna.org no later than August 1, 2016.
Proposals are to be submitted with the following information:
* Name and contact information for the person(s) making this submission
*A title and one page (250-500 words) summary of the presentation.
*A 50-word abstract suitable for printing
*Learning objectives for each presentation submitted.
*Preference of length of presentation (45 or 90 minutes)
*Signed Presenter’s Agreement
* Bio of presenter
* Picture of presenter
4. Presentation Selection
Presentations are peer reviewed. Presenters will be notified no later than August 15, 2016 about
whether or not their proposal(s) have been accepted for the conference.
Individuals submitting proposals for the CSWNA annual conference are expected to agree to the
following terms:
 I agree to make my presentation at the time selected by the 2016 Conference Planning
Committee, and to provide my own handouts at no expense to the conference.

consistent with the teachings of the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.

in order to prepare for my presentation.
