Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading
At St. Bernard of Clairvaux School, we strive to create a safe, caring, healthy, inclusive and accepting
school community. We do this by:
• Modelling, daily, for our students, what it means to be caring and inclusive
• Embedding our virtues program into our daily practice (morning announcements, assemblies,
awards at assemblies, virtues think sheet (Reflections)
• Having a PALS program to promote inclusion and cooperation
• Having Peel Police Presentations for all grades
• Inviting Guest Speakers aligned to the Virtues
In addition, this year, we are focusing on Acceptance, with a school theme of, We All Belong to God’s
Family.” We will be focusing our efforts to help make our school a more accepting place by: o
Introducing to the staff and students, our student leadership group (BEARS squad), our school
focus of acceptance and our theme, “We all belong to God’s family,” and our school song “We are
family.”
o Rewriting the CSI pledge as our acceptance pledge, share it with the students,
and place a copy in all classrooms
o Encouraging all classes to create an acceptance song/chant/poem

2015-2016
o Providing students with opportunities to be involved in school-wide days such as
Peace Day, International Day of Pink and Raise the Flag for Autism o Beginnning
to introduce “WITS” to students to promote positive problem-solving o Teaching
school-wide lessons to help prevent bullying
Through our actions and efforts, we hope to see an increase in the proportion of students indicating that
they feel accepted by the students in school as demonstrated in the CCCC School Climate Survey results.
We feel that if students feel more accepted, there will be less incidences of bullying

Message from the Pastor:
To The School Community of St. Bernard of Clairvaux:
Greetings in the Lord!
St. Josephine Bakhita Parish recognizes that strong parish-home-school connections are
foundational to supporting the development of students in the Ontario Catholic School system.
We will continue to guide and support the work of schools in Sacramental preparation. Through
the continuation of sharing best practices with our elementary schools, students will affirm their
Catholic faith in word and action through a variety of initiatives. We wish the students of St.
Bernard of Clairvaux School a blessed and fruitful school year and moving forward, look ahead to
the success of all students.
Sincerely yours,
Rev. Mark Achilles Villanueva
