Course Objectives & Student Learning Objectives Students will: 1. Communicate professionally with classmates and university faculty in daily interactions, electronic correspondence, and peer feedback (LEADSERVE 4 & 6; NCPTS 1; CED Parameter 2). 2. Analyze assessment methods suggest ways to modify instruction based on this examination (LEADSERVE 3 & 5 ; NCPTS 4 & 5; CED Parameter 1). 3. Collaborate with peers, explore a teaching practice, and lead a presentation showing examples of its impact on students (LEADSERVE 1 & 7 ; NCPTS 4; CED Parameter 2 & 6). 4. Evaluate pedagogy presentations and apply the teaching practices to their own classrooms (LEADSERVE 5 & 6 ; NCPTS 2; CED Parameter 2). Course Requirements and Evaluation: (10%) Participation: Attendance is mandatory. Students are only allowed 1 absence this semester. Each student adds a valuable and unique perspective and experience that is essential to everyone’s learning. Students are expected to participate in class discussions by offering constructive, rational, and appropriate feedback. Participation grades may include, but are not limited to, the following: ■ In-class assignments given by the instructor ■ Active participation in Professional Learning Community (PLC) that includes serving as a PLC leader and secretary on a rotating basis ■ Short homework assignments (10%) Poverty Postings : Each student will be required to respond to written prompts in addition to responding to 3 other posts written by classmates. Posts will be due by Jan. 21st at midnight. (10%) Scaffolding and Rigor Posting : Each student will be required to respond to written prompts in addition to writing your own question and responding to 2 other posts written by classmates. Posts will be due by Feb. 4th at midnight. (20%) Common Formative Assessment : Each PLT will be required to create and post a common formative assessment by Feb. 10th at midnight. Data will be collected and shared on Edmodo by Feb. 18 th. Each member will actively participate in an online analysis of data through at least 3 postings by Feb. 25th. Each PLT will create a presentation of data analysis and reteaching strategies to be presented in class. (10%) Reflection on Walkthrough Data : Each teacher will complete a Walkthrough Form on one other teacher that will be uploaded onto Edmodo by March 11th. A 1 page (typed, double spaced, size 12 font, 1 inch margins) reflection will be turned in on March 12th. 2 (40%) Pedagogical Question : Each PLT will choose one pedagogical question to research. Online discussion about topic including 3 postings will be required by April 1st. A printed annotated bibliography of your sources will be due on April 9 th. The group will create a presentation (7 minutes, 5 slides, works cited page) and post to Edmodo by April 8 th. Each group will also be presenting in class. Late Assignments: All assignments and projects are due on the dates on the syllabus and on your assigned presentation date. Each day will include a 10% deduction in grade. Teaching duties are not an excuse for submitting late assignments. Attendance As stated above, student success in this course revolves around class discussions, peer feedback, and PLC meetings. Therefore, class attendance is mandatory. If an absence is unavoidable, please let the instructor know in advance. As professionals, students must make any decision about what obligations might keep them from attending class. Excessive absences (more than 1 excused or unexcused) will require a deduction in participation points.
