Titre : Electrophorèse : actualité et place dans le diagnostic du myélome Title: Electrophoresis : actuality and multiple myeloma diagnosis Maalouf Haifa, France, Sebia Electrophoresis for separation and quantification of serum proteins is useful in numerous pathological situations to make clinical diagnostics, to follow the evolution of a disease or to evaluate the efficiency of a treatment. The most interesting applications for electrophoresis today are the specialized tests on agarose gel and the routine tests on capillary electrophoresis. Combining both technologies allows obtaining both high resolution and maximum sensitivity and is now recognized as the most successful mix to minimize missing monoclonal component in a routine laboratory practice. First, we will present an overview about electrophoresis technique and SEBIA tests available today on the market. Then, we will discuss guidelines and the place of serum and urine protein electrophoresis in multiple myeloma diagnosis. Key words: Electrophoresis, serum proteins, agarose gel, capillary electrophoresis, guidelines, multiple myeloma.
