MCSP, the Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme included technology enhancements to the aircraft avionics and tactical system, ground preparation/analysis systems, training systems and support infrastructure. Whilst the base programme is nearing completion LM are working on a number of follow on enhancements and adjacent programme opportunities such as CROWSNEST. Additionally the engineering team also support new business activities outside the scope of Merlin as well as maritime systems.We are looking for a Systems Engineer to work within the Military Solutions Engineering team. This encompasses the programme life cycle from requirements generation/derivation, to all aspects of integration, sell-off and support. Specific Job Description: This job is for a Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) to work within the Military Solutions Systems Engineering Department performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. The System Engineer will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total system solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Manage design baselines, track problems and lead them to resolution with both the customer and supply chain. Key Responsibilities By applying extensive technical expertise provide knowledge and design support to Merlin team. Undertake Lockheed Martin Engineering activities including: System requirements derivation and linking System requirements and development of stakeholder agreed verification / sell-off approach Trade studies System design and interface documentation Development and presentation of design review material Definition of system demonstration and testing Support to flight clearance Support to integration and test, including data analysis and problem solving Systems Integration with the Air Vehicle Liaison with customer and supplier stakeholders, including in-house specialists as required Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring regular use of ingenuity and creativity Specific tasks will typically include: Liaising with Customer, Technical Leadership, Key Suppliers, and Programme Management Overseeing subsystem design, technical performance, quality, and customer/user satisfaction within the overall system (installed performance) Being responsible for Technical work products relating to the assigned system or area of responsibility including specifications, design analysis reports, trade studies, test and qualification reports and technical proposals Supplier oversight and formal direction through assigned SPM Generation and reporting of Technical Metrics Advising management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications Additional/Occasional Duties and Tasks The candidate will be appointed as Technical Lead for an assigned system, segment or project and will be responsible for completing engineering analyses, specifications, development support, integration and qualification and / or proposals for similar technical requirements in adjacent programmes. Required Skills: Essential Educational Requirements of the role: Degree in an engineering discipline or other higher education with equivalent experience Solid technical experience from Bachelor or Masters degree of the operation, engineering design and integration of military systems. Desired Skills for the Role Previous experience within the defence industry is preferred, especially within the aircraft and maritime environments. Successfully liaised with Suppliers through the development phases including requirements development, integration, test, and delivery Experience of hardware & integration of hardware into systems Experience of conducting system and subsystem trade studies Excellent customer / supplier relationship management skills Knowledge and experience of: DOORS UML Knowledge of Project Management tools and techniques The candidate should be familiar with generation of reports and undertaking analysis using typical office environment tools such as Word, Powerpoint, Access, and Excel.
