management of engineering activities.
We are looking for talented Systems Engineers to join our teams in the Gloucestershire
area. This opportunity will lead to you becoming part of a dynamic and innovative team
working on key Cyber related technologies. Our projects cover a wide range of budget,
duration, scope, technology and product types and offer complex and challenging
opportunities. Our projects include Research and Innovation initiatives; full "cradle to
grave" systems development and all areas in between.
Specific Job Description:
This job is for a Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) to work within our Gloucester based team
performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk,
and supportability and effectiveness analyses for systems solutions. Analyses are
performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test,
installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. The System Engineer will ensure the
logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total system
solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. The successful
applicant shall perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies,
requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements
into hardware and software specifications. They will both conduct and manage the
generation of design baselines, problems identification and resolution and lead projects
through to resolution.

 Excellent, demonstrable systems engineering background and pedigree across the full
systems engineering lifecycle.
 Proven track record of quality delivery in complex, challenging, cutting edge
engineering environments in the Client environment. Experience, ability, drive and
determination to take personal ownership of the most complex systems engineering
challenges, and resolve issues to the highest of standards.
















The ability to work both within detailed project environments, and to span projects as
required to assist in the coherence of projects across the programme.
Demonstrated insight into difficult systems engineering challenges, both hardware and
software, and the ability to anticipate, lead and participate fully in innovative,
resourceful and highly effective solutions across management, implementation and
technical environments.
Solutions design pedigree, with an ability to architect and lead software solutions.
Demonstrated pedigree in the mission environment, spanning the environment and
with developed, niche skills and experience in tackling the most complex technology
challenges.
Possessing the drive to ensure the pull-through of new and innovative ways of valueadded business.
Capable of managing multi-disciplined engineering teams working on concurrent
complex activities for different customers.
Proven ability to energise and drive a team to mission success in challenging, complex
engineering environments.
Ability to ensure the application of client defined and industry best practices in respect
to system engineering principles and mechanics across project lifecycles including the
management of complex risk and cost issues.
Experience of working closely alongside senior customers in cutting-edge technical
environments: ability to 'quick-start' in the TCP customer environment. Personable but
strong character. Able to influence and command respect from peer groups and more
senior professionals.
Proven ability to work closely with senior customers to develop trusted relationships:
very strong negotiation skills, an ability to liaise effectively with seniors both within TCP
and the customer organisation.
Have the intellectual calibre, strength of character and confidence to negotiate with
Suppliers and Customers in challenging environments, lead meetings and resolve
technically complex engineering and environmental issues.
Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and adaptable, and react well when working
under pressure.
Have an ability to tackle innovative challenges, and market innovative solutions both
internally and to customers.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Hold Cheltenham Authority DV clearance.
Liaising with Customer, Technical Leadership, Key Suppliers, and Programme
Management
Additional/Occasional Duties and Tasks:
The candidate will be appointed as Technical Lead across activities within the business
and be responsible for completing engineering analyses, specifications, development
support, integration and qualification and / or proposals for similar technical requirements
in adjacent programmes.
They shall be required to be effective in:
 Overseeing subsystem design, technical performance, quality, and customer/user
satisfaction within the overall system (installed performance)
 The generation of Technical work products relating to the assigned system or area of
responsibility including specifications, design analysis reports, trade studies, test and
qualification reports and technical proposals
 Supplier oversight and formal direction through assigned SPM
 Generation and reporting of Technical Metrics
 Advising management and customers on advanced technical research studies and
applications
Required Skills:

As well as:






Experience of working in all phases of the project life cycle
Performed effectively in a significant role on a complex system development, ideally in
the defence arena.
Successfully liaised with Suppliers through the development phases including
requirements development, integration, test, and delivery
Experience of hardware & integration of hardware into systems
Experience of conducting system and subsystem trade studies
Excellent customer / supplier relationship management skills
Knowledge and experience of:
 DOORS and Requirements Management tools and techniques
 Knowledge of Project Management tools and techniques
The candidate should be familiar with generation of reports and undertaking analysis using
typical office environment tools such as Word, Powerpoint, Access, and Excel.
The successful candidate must be a champion of teamwork and foster a team environment
that encourages ownership and accountability across the functional membership.
