MIRA LOMA DETENTION CENTER GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION SCOPE OF WORK Objective The Geotechnical Investigation report shall contain results and recommendations of detailed geotechnical and geological studies for building new Jail Facilities at Mira Loma Site. Scope of Work The Consultant shall provide all necessary labor, equipment, and materials, as customarily rendered when providing professional geotechnical investigation, observation, and testing services for the construction and repair of County capital projects. Geotechnical Investigation Preconstruction phase geotechnical investigation services shall consist of all such services as are customarily rendered when providing professional and geotechnical services, and shall include, but not be limited to, the following: 1. Subsurface explorations to determine the nature and stratigraphy of the subsurface soils within the facility’s footprint and obtain samples for laboratory testing. Subsurface explorations should include a minimum of XX borings to a depth of 50 feet. Location of the borings shall be below or as near as possible the foot print of future development. 2. Laboratory testing of soil samples to determine physical properties to include: a) b) c) d) e) f) g) In-place moisture content and dry density determination Shear strength Expansion index Compressibility Gradation Corrosivity Sulfate Content h) Consolidation potential i) R-Value 3. Geologic seismic evaluation to define the geological environment and geologic-seismic hazards that may affect the site. 4. Engineering evaluation of the geotechnical data to develop recommendations for design of the foundations and retaining walls below grade, floor slab support, and earthwork. 5. Seismic and dynamic analysis recommendations to include the following: a) Statement of known earthwork faults and geologic seismic features in the area, soil profile type and near source factors per 2011 LA County Building Code requirements, and potential for liquefaction under the structure. b) A site-specific elastic design response spectrum based on the geologic, tectonic, seismological, and soil characteristics associated with the site. The spectrum shall be developed for ground motion having a 10 percent probability of being exceeded in 50 years for damping ratios of 2 percent, 5 percent, and 10 percent of critical damping. 6. All data, findings, and recommendations shall be formally submitted in a geotechnical report. 7. Support services to scoping professional and design-builder during design and plan check.
